michael gets pulled over for swerving and luke isn't too happy
Warnings: none-
michael was beyond tired. it was past 2 am and it was his turn to drive. luke was asleep in the passengers seat, as well as 2 year old annabelle in her carseat in the back.
michael would have asked luke to drive, but he knew he needed sleep since he had spent the last night of their little family vacation up with annabelle, who had somehow gotten sick.
so now he was stuck trying to stay as awake as possible, every few minutes taking a drink of his coffee that had gone cold by now. he even tried to stay on the roads that weren't very busy just in case.
with half an hour left to go, michael was barely awake, his eyes drooping. he knew he should have pulled over a while ago to rest, but he thought he could make it.
judging by the sounds of sirens from a nearby cop car, he probably woudn't make it.
sighing, he pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the police officer to get out of his car and come yell at him for driving while being sleepy. he just hoped luke would stay asleep, because michael knew if he woke up he would not be happy.
there was a tap on the window and michael slowly rolled it down, revealing a not too happy looking officer.
"do you know why i pulled you over?"
michael nodded tiredly, rubbing his eyes while fighting back a yawn. "i was swerving wasn't i?"
the officer sighed and mumbled a yeah, pulling out his little pad, and michael knew he was going to get a ticket.
he scribbled something down quickly, then ripped it off of the pad and handed it to michael. "now i suggest you stay off to the side of the road for a bit and get some rest before trying to drive again. wouldn't want to cause an accident, would you?"
michael shook his head and the officer gave him a small smile. "goodnight, then," he nodded and started walking back towards his own car.
michael sighed and leaned over luke to put the ticket in the glove compartment, making a mental note to not forget to pay it. when he shut it, he did it with a little more force than intended, waking luke up with the loud noise.
luke sat up, stretching his arms in front of him. he glanced over at michael who was now stopping the engine, not needing the heat or the air on since it was nice outside.
"what time is it?" luke mumbled, still half asleep. michael looked up, not noticing before that luke had woken up, and smiled.
"a little past 2:30 in the morning. we're only a bit longer away from home but i'm going to sleep for a little bit," michael explained, leaving out the part where he got pulled over and was given a ticket.
luke nodded, sniffling a bit. "do we have any tissues in here?" he asked, popping open the glove compartment. the ticket fell out and landed between luke's feet. he picked it up and frowned, turning to michael. "what's this?"
michael bit his lip, hoping luke wouldn't be too mad when he explained what happened. "a ticket...i may or may not have swerved a little," he admitted sheepishly.
luke scowled at him. "if you were tired, you should have pulled over a while ago," he scolded michael, making the other boy frown.
"i'm sorry luke-"
"do you realize you could've gotten us into an accident if you fell asleep? you could have gotten all three of us killed!" luke said, raising his voice.
