The last thing I remembered was waking up in the middle of the forest with no idea where I was. My village had been burned down by an army or orcs and my family was dead, I was on my own. I must have been wondering for days until I stumbled upon the lovely hills of Bag End. They must of all been frightened of me. An elf maiden covered in dirt, with shredded clothes and cracked lips. They probably thought I was crazy, I would have.
"Water, please I need some water" I tried to plead, but my throat had dried up days ago. Everyone was hiding from me, scared, annoyed that I had disrupted their feast. Little did they know what I had been through in the last week. No one even turned a cheek to me, I was on the verge of passing out stumbling through the town knocking on doors until finally someone answered. He was the shortest man I had ever seen. I must have been at least four feet higher than him.
"Please kind sir, a drink of water, please?" I was practically on my knees.
"Oh my dear, come in, come in!" I trudged in with a sigh of relief. Finally, a kind soul.
"Here, please sit down" he said ushering me to a chair at his dining table. It was quite the squeeze with me being so tall, but I was thankful none the less. He ran off, I presume into his kitchen and I could hear glasses clanging and the sound of running water. Never had I heard anything more beautiful in my life, and I smiled."Here you go miss" he said handing me the glass. I practically snatched it out if his hand and gulped it down in two seconds. He stood shocked for a moment before retrieving the glass from my hand and going back to the kitchen to refill it. He came back with two glasses this time and I drained the first one quickly handing it back before taking the second glass and taking small sips. I could feel him staring at me, but I couldn't be bothered because I was too focused on quenching my thirst. After finishing the third glass I felt immensely better and remembered my manners.
"Thank you....?" I questioned waiting for him to tell me his name.
"Bilbo" he said smiling, and I couldn't help returning the smile.
"Many thanks Bilbo, my name is Arielle by the way" I replied standing to bow curtly before sitting back down. "Ouch!" I said wincing as I sat back down. I pulled up my dress skirt to see a large gash on my right leg. I gasped in horror as I stared at it and Bilbo came around to my side of the table to see what was wrong.
"Oh my gosh!" He exclaimed. Running off somewhere. I heard him searching through cupboards and he came back a short moment later with a wet cloth and some medicine. He then told me to sit on the table so he could clean my wound. He pressed the cloth to the cut and I couldn't help but wince as I finally felt the pain. How had I not felt it this whole time? I guess my thirst had been more important. "I'm so sorry!" Bilbo said apologizing. I looked down at his worried expression and couldn't help but let out a small chuckle.
"No worries Bilbo, I am fine" I smiled down at him. He blushed at my reply before returning to my leg. After he had cleaned and bandaged my cut, he sat me back on my chair with a small bowl of what I guessed was meat stew. I didn't normally eat meat but I wasn't about to be rude, and to be honest I was starving. We sat in silence for a few moments before Bilbo spoke up.
"Do you mind if I ask how you ended up in Bag End Arielle?" I frowned at his question before answering him. I told him all I could remember, and when I finished my story he looked so sorry for me. "So you have no where to go?" I shook my head as I looked at my bowl. "Well I know it's not much but you can stay here If you want. I have..." I didn't even let him finish before I launched myself across the table to embrace him. I squeezed him so tightly that he might have exploded it I hadn't let him go.
"Oh my dearest friend I would love nothing more" I practically yelled before kissing him on the cheek. He blushed before answering, still a bit shocked by my reactions.
"Well then it's settled, you can have the spare room" he smiled while gesturing for me to follow him through his home. We walked in comfortable silence until he came to a stop in front of a door. He opened it to reveal a small room with a single bed, dresser, and mirror inside of it, it was perfect. I smiled at him as I entered the room walking over to the mirror. I almost chocked at my reflection, cuz Damn I looked like trash. I turned back to Bilbo.
"I look horrible!" I shrieked. He only chuckled in response before turning around and walking away. I followed him and he led my to the washroom.
"This is the washroom, feel free to take a bathe now. I'm sorry I'm short on elvish clothes but we will go into town and get you some stuff tomorrow". I couldn't help but squeeze him one more time before entering the bathroom to rid myself of this second layer of skin I had seemed to have acquired in the last week. I slipped into the warm water and couldn't help but let out a sigh of content. I must of sat in the water for hours trying to remember something, anything from what happened, but every time I closed my eyes I only saw fire. I let out silent tears as I thought of my mother and father. Looking down at the bath water I saw it was murky brown and decided it was time to get out, I would have another bath tomorrow. As I grabbed the towel to slip it around my body I noticed the small print on the tip of my shoulder. It was a tiny tattoo of what looked like a glowing heart. I stared at it And felt strange, some sort of energy. I've had it for as long as I could remember but could never figure out what it meant. I quickly put back on my tattered clothes and returned to my room, but not before walking into the kitchen to give Bilbo a quick goodnight.
"Thank you again, my new friend". Bilbo smiled before replying a quick "Good night" and returning to the dishes he was washing. I walked back to my new room and practically leaped onto the tiny bed, yawning in comfort before closing my eyes and letting sleep take me away. But terrors filled my head as my dreams brought me back to my village. I saw people running and homes set ablaze. Bodies everywhere and me standing in the middle of it all. My house was ashes, and I ran to the sight screaming for my mother and father, but I knew they weren't coming, they were gone. So I ran into the forest, but had nowhere to go. I crumpled to the ground and cried myself to sleep. The scene slowly faded away and I was then transported into a memory?
"The poor little one, we have saved her but to what extent? Now plagued with this curse, was it really worth it?"
"It is all we can do to keep her alive" said another figure.
"But she will die again!" yelled a voice. I could tell it belonged to a man, he seemed so sad as he looked at me. I couldn't see his face behind his light blue cloak but it felt so familiar. He carried me with him, holding me gently. They were leaving me in a small village with an elf couple. Why? I didn't know.
"She is the one, the one we have waited for her. Only she can manage this curse and use it to save us all one day."
"I'm sorry my love, to leave you, to grow without your true family, but I will find you one day and all will be explained, my daughter". With that they all left but not before the mystery man kissed me on the forehead, lovingly. Did he say daughter? Who was this man and why am I having this memory? It seemed so old, and as my dreams continued I couldn't help but question who this man was and what curse was put on me many years ago.
