The Borrower and Her Bean (complete)

Part 12

Melina gathered her courage, realising that she was more clothed than Henry. Red-faced she asked "where are my clothes now?" he pointed to the balcony of the dolls house and there she could see he had carefully laid them over the railing to dry. Henry's deep voice drew her back to face him "I bought some barbie doll clothes for you and for your brothers, they are in the dolls house hanging in the cupboard, maybe you could find some clothes for me in there?" taking a deep breath she instructed Henry to look away, once she was convinced he was, she stood up out of the sheet. Moving past Kal she stroked his furry cheek and cooed "Don't worry bear, well get you some food you just have to hang in there." she watched as his eye focused on her before looking back at his owner.

As she walked through the folds of the blanket towards the bridge, she thought about how strange It must be for Kal hearing his master and seeing a tiny creature talking to him. Treading carefully along the bridge making sure not to look down she finally reached her clothes. She breathed a sigh of relief as the last pieces of her garments were back on her body. Now no longer embarrassed she moved quickly into the house. Moving from her room into a section of the hallway she could see another bedroom across from hers. It was identical to her room, in the cupboard she found shorts and shirts hanging as well as some sweat pants. Deciding on the sweat pants and a shirt she tucked them under her arm and made the journey back to Henry.

Henry was mortified, all he seemed to do was mess up with lina. He wanted so much to impress her, to show her how much he like her but instead he kept making mistakes. Now he was her size maybe he would finally be able to get to know her without all the fear associated with their normal size differences. He watched as she walked back towards him, running a hand through Kals hair as she passed. It was weird seeing Kal from this angle he really could be terrifying but Lina seemed to bring a calming presence to his furry friend. Reaching Henry, she handed him the clothes. He put the sweats on under the covers then stood to put on the shirt. Even as a small person he found the shirt fit only just, with his chest pushing at the buttons. He laughed to himself thinking 'What's new'.

Melina and Henry were now standing in the middle of the bed, both trying to work out the problem at hand. Melina found that even though her bean was now borrower size he was still a lot taller than her, her face came up to his shoulders. Looking up at him she asked " So tell me, what would you normally do if you were Human size" scrunching up his nose he said "well I would open the bag, and scoop out a cup for him and put it in his bowl. My concern is that even if we can manage to do that the bag is on an upper shelf so Kal does not get into it and eat the whole lot. Outside of his food he's pretty easy, he has a doggy door to go outside and his water bowl fills when it's below a certain level. Still, food and walks that's going to be a real problem."

Scratching her chin Melina wondered aloud "So, what would you do if you had to go away for a while and your family could not take Kal? Would someone come here?" Already knowing the answer he replied quickly "I have a doggy sitter that sometimes comes over and takes Kal for a walk and feeds him." she smiled at him, a smile that never ceased to make him smile back " Well how do you contact her?" beginning to see what she was suggesting, he responded "My phone, do you think we can make it work?" he remembered she had been able to start and stop the movie using her hand so maybe they could work out how to text on his phone.

Nodding Melina confirmed "Yes, I think so let's give it a go" moving together they walked to the edge of the bed. Henry peered over the edge. It still amazed him the difference between last night sitting and swinging his legs into bed compared to now having to find a way to climb down the cliff-like edge. Suddenly hit with dizziness he edged away back towards Melina. "Ummm so how do you get up and down?" he watched as she moved to the chain of his blinds "We climb down this way" as she grabbed hold and started to move down the ball and chain. Moving to the chain he watched as she reached the bottom, reminding himself of all the stunts he had done he took a fortifying breath and reached for the chain. Using his upper body strength he rested his feet on each ball and began to lower himself down the string. As his feet landed on the ground he looked back up whispering to himself "Wow" He heard a chuckle next to him looking down into her sparkling eyes he echoed her smile.

Together they walked towards the stairs, again Henry was made aware of how difficult it was for the borrowers to move around his house. The normally easy to climb stairs became a journey that took them 10mins to climb down. Each step became an effort as they lowered themselves down the 7-inch drop. A floating thought ran through his mind at each step as he remembered the cup of Ice, how did they manage to get it to his room. By the time they reached the bottom he was breathing hard, this really was a great workout. Now walking towards the living room where he had last seen his iPhone it truly hit him how small he was. Everything looked like towering skyscrapers. Wondering along the edge of the couch he could see the dust bunnies underneath that he had missed whilst cleaning.

There on the table was his phone now normally that would not be a problem but now to Henry, it seemed an impossible climb. Remembering how he had lifted Melina whilst she was sleeping in the chair to be on the table he wondered if that would have trapped her there. He watched as Melina walked around looking at all the angles. Coming back towards him she smiled "It will be ok, we just need to go get my shoestring rope and hook. But that means you will probably meet my family as they will be probably where my stuff is." a sheepish blush crept up her face at the mention of her family and Henry was not sure he was ready but Kal needed there help. So instead he sucked up his courage and said "well lead on Lina"
