Dropping off Tendou was hell for both of us.
As soon as he came in, I noticed a few kids laugh, so I stopped before I left him there completely and waited by the door just looking.
Tendou walked peacefully to his desk with his books in his hand. Younger students got up from their desks and went behind him laughing and making symbols behind his back.
"He's a freak! He can't hear at all!" A guy laughed making a motion as if he was going to hit Tendou, but didn't actually touch him.
I growled and speed walked into the class ignoring the teacher who was coming in right behind me.
"You think that's funny?" I caught the whole class's attention including Tendou who'd just sat down and noticed I was in front of the class.
"What's your problem?" The same boy who had spoken up before now spoke up again.
"He's deaf. He's not a freak. You people are awful!" I yelled trying to speak fast so Tendou didn't know what was going on, but he didn't seem phased even if he did know.
"Come on, we're just having fun." He crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair.
I glanced at Tendou who's face was as red as his math notebook. I walked directly towards the boy and he looked at me defiantly, "Whatcha' gonna do?"
"Excuse me miss. I think it's time that you-"
"You just allow this to happen!" I turn to the teacher outraged completely.
When the teacher just stayed silent and sat down, I turned back to the boy and kicked his chair throwing him into the floor, "You are probably a freshman taking these classes because you're in some honors program; did I get that right? You aren't worth more than the As you got in high school. Wake the hell up!" I pushed his chair out of his reach and stormed out of the classroom despite hearing a pair of feet running after me.
"No! I won't go to the office! I'll-" I turned around and grew silent and shocked when I realized it was Tendou.
He grabbed my arm and looked down mouthing words to himself before looking back up and saying them out loud, "Th-thank you."
"I was one of those without realizing. I never want what I did to happen to you again." I spoke slowly for him and didn't pull my arm away but slid it down so he was holding my hand.
He smiled a little, "You... you're different." He seemed to struggle to pronounce that word, but he said it correctly.
I shook my head, "No, but you're a friend I care for. We won't let it happen to you anymore."
I turned on my heels leading him to my original destination: the band room. He let me lead him and pulled a little when he noticed a class already in the band room.
I turned back around, "It's okay. Just stick with me."
As soon as I walked in, faces turned and eyes narrowed in on me. They all knew who I was by now. I led Tendou to sit beside me at the piano, "You put your hands on and calm down with me okay?"
