Prologue
YOUR DAUGHTER. IN DANGER. LEAVE HOME. NOW.
That's what the note said. It was my signal to leave town. On impulse i threw my luggage bag on the bed, packed some clothes for the both of us, my daughter and I, got into our SUV and drove as far as i can.
It's been three days and we're still on the road to nowhere trying to survive. We live in hiding with nothing much to eat, in danger, desperate. I'm losing hope but I have to stay alive for my daughter. She's already asking questions like "Where are we going mom?", "Are we there yet?", "Can we go home now?" and "Where's dad?". The last question i feared the most.
So here we are in our next stop over a town full of people maybe there's a festival or something. I feel safe and panicky at the same time. Safe because in my mind there's nothing to be worried about since there are people surrounding me. Panicky because my intuition says otherwise. I can feel something is going to happen but seeing my daughter enjoying the show even for a short period of time, on her birthday made me stop and enjoy it too. "Happy birthday honey. I love you," I said as I hugged and kissed her.
"Mom can I go closer so i can watch the show? Please?" she said with pleading eyes.
"Ok but don't go too far. Stay where I can see you and don't talk to strangers." She'll be fine. There's nothing to be worried about. I was convincing myself and trying to ignore this nagging feeling inside me.
I got comfortable, too comfortable because the next thing i know I was blinfolded, gagged and punched hard in the stomach. Baby! Where are you taking me? Where is my baby?! I screamed silently.
"Mooommmyyyy!!! Nooooo!"
