You know what, the whole idea of school dances only sounds seriously stupid when you are standing in front of a mirror looking at yourself in a skirt and you realise that you are overdressed? Yeah, one of the perks of
London was that it had no school dances. The competition in those things must he so high. I would much rather go to the eighties place, I couldn't though because it was weird to go there without Louis. I just wish we were still friends, it would make everything less complicated. Matt was at the school all afternoon working on turning the sports hall into a dance floor. I finished my shift at the café and dressed up. The dance only started at nine. For the past free days I've been listening to Say Hello, Wave Goodbye on repeat. It was an addiction that I couldn't get over, the song also made me jealous. It had started our friendship so whenever I listen to it it is sort of like we are still friends. I took my bike to school because I really didn't want to take the bus. When I arrived the music was already beating loud but no one was around, I came an hour early to help Matt and his "committee."I walked into the stadium and was pretty much shocked, there wasn't a single area that wasn't covered in decorations. There were banners, balloons, arches of flowers. I saw Matt and walked over,
"Does the school have some secret budget for dances that none of us know about of is the parents of the student council loaded?" He laughed,
"They gave us five hundred pounds. I'm telling you, join the student council."
"Yeah, I'll have to pass."
"You look nice,by the way." I smiled and did a little bow. "Now help spraying these silver stars on the floor." I snorted, it was all so unnecessary. All you really needed was music. In half an hour students started queuing up with tickets. As I wasn't going to dance I volunteered to be in charge of the entrance, there was another girl who I didn't know the name of who was in charge of photos. The others could enjoy themselves but had to be on the lookout for anything fishy. A boy named Ian was in charge of the music and apparently you could nominate people to do karaoke.
Apparently, sorting out tickets was harder then I thought. There were people who had brought tickets and just handed them over, these were the easy ones, but there were also people who needed to buy tickets. I was not good with money so it was a wreck. The box we had for change was already nearly full. The turnout was incredible. Matt was right, everyone came. What was so special about this I had no clue. One by one they all spilled. That was when Louis' group came. Carly and her besties, Amanda and... was it Emily? Well they all had tickets and ran to the stage to dance. Louis and his friends however, yeah, they didn't have tickets.
"Um, how many tickets?" I asked, Louis looked at me like I was crazy. He gestured the three boys in front of me.
"Three," I nodded and handed the tickets over. The boy next to Louis, handed over change, not notes. It was so heavy that my non athletic hand couldn't hold them and I dropped all of those coins, fifteen pounds worth of coins, on the table and floor.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry. Don't worry it's fine, you guys have a good time I'll clear it up." I went to the front of the desk and started picking coins.
"You guys head out I'm coming." I heard tithe two leave and Louis bended down and helped pick them up. I didn't look at him.
"You know you don't have to help me. Go slow dance with that girl you wanted to slow dance with." I didn't mean to sound bitter, but I was.
