On Solaria

Parallel to before The big day

Valtors PoV:

I was standing/hiding outside the Solarian palace, pretty near the entrance. Any sound and I'll be done for. Flying here had made me completely exhausted. Usually, I would open a portal to anywhere I'd want to go, but since I had just gotten out of Obsidian, my magic was dangerously unstable right now. I could end up anywhere, hell, I could end up right inside Faragondas office in Alfea. "It would be straight back to Obsidian then, after some moments of shock and chaos", I thought, shrugging. I assumed the magic barrier was down since it did not seem like there was a new villain around. But then I collected my thoughts. I needed to get inside, but how? I could take the main entrance but it was crawling with guards and I did not have the energy to fight them anyway.

"Any of the other entrances? Nah, they were probably guarded as well. Maybe a window? Sure... and land on somebody's bed while they're sleeping? No, that wouldn't work either. Can't fly anymore anyway." *Sigh* I kept arguing with myself in my head.

Just great! Here was the once greatest wizard in the entire magical universe and now he can't even break into a petty palace.

"I could just wait until tomorrow morning."

My magic should be stable by then but on the other hand, it would be more difficult since there would be more people.

A frustrated growl escaped my mouth and I instinctively clamped a hand on my mouth. I just hoped the guards didn't hear it. But since when did I have just a teeny-tiny bit of luck?

"I'm too evil, that has to be why Fate doesn't want to give me any luck."

Hey, you heard that? One of the guards (the captain) called out to the other one.

"Of course, they had to hear that!"

Hmm, must have been a wild animal, must be pretty near us, the other answered, squinting his eyes right where I was standing.

"Riiiight, so now I'm a wild animal. What next? A pixie?", I thought sarcastically.

The captain's PoV:

I knew the wild animals on Solaria were quite dangerous and aggressive so we had to kill them before they ripped us apart. I made a sign to my companion to follow me and slowly crept towards the bushes. He followed with his spear raised just like mine. And then I quickly moved the bushes away and got ready to hit the... whatever would be in there. But as soon as I saw what it was I lowered my spear. It was a fawn, with light brown almost golden fur and blue-grey eyes. Lying down, it looked completely exhausted. Its antlers were long and are more outwards than upwards. I wondered why it wasn't running away.

Valtor's PoV:

"Ok, just take it easy Valtor."

I knew if I moved too much or ran away they would probably throw their spears at me. My magic wasn't that stable yet but I'm sure I'll be able to cast just a simple spell. A disguise was what I needed.

"Think Valtor think!" I mentally pepped myself. I couldn't cast a spell I haven't cast before because it would take so much energy that I would most likely collapse. Suddenly something clicked in my brain. Of course! I had once turned into a fawn.

I could just..." I focused all my energy and felt myself transforming. "Yes!" was the only thing before my legs gave out and I landed on the ground with a groan. Thankfully my new legs quietened the fall. I tried to stand up again but my sight was already blurry and now it just got worse. I had no choice but to just sit here and wait for the guards to go away. I heard the steps coming closer and closer. I made yet another failed attempt to get up and now the guards were right on the other side of the bushes.

"I just got out of Obsidian and now I'm about to be sent back there again. The best thing that can happen is that they stab the spear right through me without looking. At least then I wouldn't have to face the humiliation of standing powerless before the Magix Council and being punished to execution- or maybe a lifetime in Omega? Oh, and this time I won't have the luck of some witches freeing me."

Then bushes were pushed aside and the captain raised his spear. I closed my eyes waiting for the sharp metal to pierce through me. But that didn't happen. Opening my eyes I saw the captain lower his spear and then put it on the ground. I raised my head to stand up and lowered it twice as fast when I felt a stinging pain in the back of my head. The captain came closer and reached his hand out to pat my face. I quickly turned it away and cursed my pathetic condition. Here I was, at the mercy of a stupid captain and a guard who was standing a little further away.

Don't be an afraid little one, the captain said to me kindly.

"Oh, if only I could use my magic, I would blast him to Oblivion," I thought desperately. I could just hope nobody finds out that the once greatest wizard is now lying helplessly at the mercy of two guards.

The captain took a few more steps towards me and stretched his hand out and patted the side of my neck. Without thinking, I turned my head and bit the captain's hand.

Third PoV:

Ahhh! The captain screamed right out. It didn't hurt that much but it was mostly the shock that made him scream. He was certainly not expecting this.

The other guard hurried over to his captain to make sure he was alright. The captain's hand was a little red but fine. The guard looked over to the aggressive fawn who now was trying his best to stand up.

"Come on, I gotta stand up!" Valtor thought, just as he once again landed on his knees. He tried again, as stubborn as he was and this time he did it more slowly... And succeeded. His legs were wobbly, ready to give out under him but he used all his strength and focus to not let that happen. He took a step back from both the guards, who did the same, not wanting to scare him again. Valtor then stood still, catching his breath and as soon as that was done, he ran straight into the nearby forest until he was out of sight.

Valtor's PoV:

I didn't stop running until I was near the entrance to the Solarian Palace. I tried to muffle my panting and I could feel myself swaying slightly. The guards were still where I left them, leaving the entrance unguarded. I transformed back into my human shape and then not having the time to care about whether my magic was on zero now or that I didn't have the strength to be able to do anything else, I ran inside.

"Finally, I'm in!" I thought releived. "Things should be easy now."

I was right, I found the door to the crypt of the Second Sun of Solaria... and two sleeping guards.

I felt my lip curling into a sneer. You'd think they would have better security after last time, how pathetic. "They're sleeping on the job. Well, that's going to have consequences (for them). For me on the other hand it'll only make things easier." I smiled and then looked back at the guards. One of them had dropped his spear. I tip-toed forward and picked it up. Looking at it, I noticed a button and guessed it was the "fire button". And quicker than the eye, I quickly pointed it at one guard and fired. He fell unconscious on the floor with a thud and I did the same with the other guard. Thankfully, the weapon did not make much sound so it didn't alert the rest of the palace. I fired it once again at the door lock and it opened, almost welcoming me in with its heat. Dropping the spear, I walked towards the Second Sun of Solaria and began to absorb its energy. Warmth enveloped me and I could feel the power start running through my veins. Feeling regenerated, at last, I teleported out of the palace to Domino, to wait for tomorrow...
