"If you're not careful you can spend your whole life looking for what you've lost."
Linda Smith had always loved quaint cafe with itself Victorian tables. It was a place where she could think. She is the CEO of a company in California and always kept a small black leather notebook. That notebook is a to-do list for her. She had a lot of work that kept her very busy and she often forgot things that she was supposed to do. The notebook solved this problem. As she walked down that sunlit street with people crowding in around her. She didn't mind though, oftentimes she quite liked the busyness of California and the way that the sun hit her cheek just right. She thought all of this as she walked to her work; it was a tall building that shone in the bright morning. She stopped by her favorite coffee and pastry shop each morning. She did so today, she walked into the shop and stood in line for a few minutes. They had classical music playing in the background and she hummed along as she waited.
Then she got her coffee and seeing that she had a few minutes to spare so she sat down at a nearby table and opened up her notebook, looking to see what she had to do today. Then she saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the figure of an Old Man. She thought nothing of this for there was a lot of people out this morning. Linda drank the rest of her coffee and started walking for her work when she realized that she had left her notebook at the table. Quickly walking back to the cafe she looked at her table but it was gone.
Linda looked back, around her to see if anyone had taken it but she saw no-one holding her small black notebook. So she deiced as she began to walk again that she would but another one and she carried on with the rest of her day. But she missed her notebook dearly and she could not remember most of what she needed to do for the rest of the day. Like a drab, depressed Dog she walked home and as she got in bed and drifted off to sleep for some reason she thought about the old man again and how he had been scanning the ground and the people and the sky as if looking for something that even he did not know where it had gone. The next day not even a cup of Coffee would calm Linda's nerves about the notebook and the old man.

The old man was walking down the street when he stopped suddenly and looked around. He did not know why he did this but then he say a woman get up for a coffee table and walk away, but she had left behind something. As he walked across the street to see what it was he saw that it was a small black notebook. Not wanting to snoop but wanting to see what was inside. His curiosity won over and he looked inside just a bit. It was a to-do list he realized and it looked like it was important so he looked up to try to find her but she was gone. So he walked inside holding the notebook and walked up to the cashier and asked where the lost and found was. The cashier told him and he placed it in the box. He hoped that the woman would came back looking for it. He walked out and went back to his car and drove off, hoping that the notebook would be found one day.
But a year had passed and as he walked back into the coffee shop and looked into the the box of the lost and found. He moved around a few items and then he saw it. The leather black notebook, he picked it up and walked out. He was sure that if the woman had looked in the lost and found and saw it it would not be here today. So he felt justified to take it. Another lost thing in this world had been found.
