The next day the Gypsy Banders took them to the edge of the circle as promised.
"Bye! We'll miss y'all!" called Pip as him and his family left.
"We'll miss y'all too!" Patton called back.
They all said their farewells, the Gypsy Banders trotting away with their bells a ringing and songs a singing. They watched them leave before turning to Nightingale. The Lunar unicorn had sleep through the night, the next morning acting as if nothing ever happened, and no one was brave enough to ask him about his panic attack the day prior.
"We need to cross the Gem Mountain Range today, so I should warn you that there are some very dangerous creatures in the valley forests. It's be best if we travel during the day too, night time is extremely dangerous for travelers," said Nightingale.
"Then we'd better get moving if we are to make any progress," said Janus, looking up at the clear blue sky where the sun was already past its highest point.
"Alright, let's go," with that Nightingale led them east, towards some towering snow-capped mountains.
"We don't have to climb those, right?" asked Roman, making a face.
"Nope. We're going through the valleys. And we don't have to worry about Geode unicorns. They abandoned this part of the range when the Solar Kingdom took over. The only ones left are scattered around the mountains in caves, chambers, and tunnels," whinnied Fynn, prancing next to Patton.
"Oh thank goodness," Roman whispered.
They made it to the mountains shortly after, Nightingale guiding them into the ominous looking forests. Once they entered it was as if the sun wasn't even out, it was so dark. The branches were twisted and spiked, the bark pretty much black with dark green ivy growing on some.
"Charming place," Virgil said sarcastically, gaining a few chuckles from the others.
"Yes. It's home to Canas, saber-toothed beasts that are some of the only creatures in existence who make a habit of hunting unicorns," murmured Nightingale, everyone stopping.
"Hold on, are you telling me that there are animals in here that will eat us?" Remus asked.
"Yes again. But you don't have to worry Remus. You're a Geode unicorn, Canas typically hunt Lunar unicorns," Nightingale said with the roll of his eyes. He continued walked, everyone quickly following behind him since they were not about to be left behind in this place.
"So that means they'll go after you or Virgil?!" Patton squeaked, eyes darting around the forest.
"Well, I suppose Virgil and I are the more likely targets, either us or Fynn, since he's young," pondered Nightingale.
"Ha! I know you'll never let me get eaten, Nightingale," smiled Fynn.
"Oh trust me, if we meet Canas I'm sacrificing you first," said Nightingale, Fynn just laughing and rubbing his face against the Lunar's right shoulder.
"Anyway, Canas aren't even the worst of our troubles. There are Umbras loose everywhere now, and they'd just love to make a snack out of me and Virgil," Nightingale added, flicking his tail and ducking under a low hanging branch.
