"Hey, Sianna!" A voice called out. I turned to see April, a girl I would've thought never knew I even existed. Although she got my name wrong.
"It's Sierra. Sierra May." I responded, waiting for her to catch up. It was a pretty cold morning, and I was on my way to Alpine High, my high school.
"Oh, sorry! And if you don't know, I'm April." she panted, done from running over to me. I nodded. Everyone knew April. She was one of the Populars-AKA the most popular girls in school. She happened to be blond, and she says it's her natural color. I studied her for a moment.
Over the weekend she had cut her long hair so that it was barely past her chin, and it was brushed to the sides, showing her pale forehead. She had warm chocolate brown eyes, and blemish-free skin, yet she had cute freckles. Today she was wearing a bubblegum pink shirt with a blue denim jacket. There was white fuzz around the collar. Her pants matched her jacket, and her sneakers matched her shirt.
When I didn't respond she looked around before speaking again. "I was wondering if you wanted to walk to school together." I stared at her, flabbergasted.
"Um, sure." I said, finding my voice again. She immediately linked her arm with mine and started skipping. I was dragged along.
"So what grade are you in?" she asked.
"Um, sophomore." I panted, unhooking my arm so that I could catch my breath.
"Me too!" she squealed, though I already knew. The Populars had 6 members; one from freshman and sophomore each, then two from junior and senior each.
"I like your outfit." she complimented. Before I even had time to thank her she was already walking and talked as fast as the speed of light. I barely heard anything she said.
I walked in silence, her voice droning on and on, until we finally got to the school gates. The high schoolers were standing around out front, waiting to be let in. At a certain angle from the entrance, you could see smoke coming from behind the building. All of the new freshmen kids get worried about it until someone tells them it's just some teachers smoking.
At the entrance of school, you could see some jocks smoking, and around the edges of the fence kids were drug dealing. The Populars-who usually sit or stand at the entrance of the school doors with the jocks- dropped their jaws, staring at April and me.
April was oblivious to them. She was staring at a jock separated from the rest of the group. He was at one of the corners of the fence, watching the others. I got excited when I saw him. April bit her lip and looked antsy.
I tore across the yard and jumped into his waiting arms. "Toby!" I squealed as he twirled me around and set me down. April caught up a few moments later.
I kissed him on the cheek and he ruffled my hair. April watched the gesture with watchful eyes.
"Hey, how's my girl?" he asked with a wide grin on his face. I blushed.
"She's just fine." I replied.
I took him all in. He was pretty tall, 5'll, and he had black hair brushed back out of his dark green eyes. His tanned skin glowed in the cool morning air, and he looked absolutely breathtaking in his brown coat and baggy jeans. I know, not much, but he's the guy I'm in love with, after all.
April looked him over too, probably secretly correcting his fashion mistakes-though her eyes looked otherwise. But I ignored her at the moment and leaned against him as he wrapped his warm arms around me.
I, on the other hand, had light brown hair that was always messy and tangled, and dark gray eyes. My skin was pale-too pale-but at least I didn't have any blemishes at the moment.
He chuckled and whispered in my ear, his breathing tickling my skin. "I'm sure she is." April looked jealous, but it's probably because she was cold and wished she picked something warmer.
I grinned and he smirked. "Nice dimples." he complimented, and I felt my cheeks grow hot.
"How long have you been dating?" April blurted.
"When I first got into this school-freshman year. He was a sophomore then, but that didn't stop us." I told her. April blinked, then nodded, looking at her feet.
Toby brushed the bangs out of my eyes, and then the bell rang. The smokers crushed the rest of the cigarettes that were out, and threw them away. The other shady kids slinked into the building.
"Let's go." April said, tugging me away from Toby. She looked relieved from me being out of his arms-probably because he was as slow as a turtle at the moment. He sighed, and we headed inside.
I went to my locker, which was conveniently next to Toby's, and put my book bag in, only taking out the stuff I needed for English class.
The only classes Toby and I had together were Lunch and the electives, but the Populars were in all my classes. I sighed, kissed my boyfriend goodbye, and walked to class.
I walked past the front row, where all of them sat. Don't ask me how all of them get to be in the same classes.
They sneered at me and made rude remarks, but April only waved her fingers at me. I didn't bother waving back as I took my seat next to Charlotte, a brunette with thick rimmed glasses. She was actually pretty nice, and she waved at me when I sat down. I greeted her back.
"So how was your weekend?" she asked.
"Great, I went to the movies with Toby." I replied. She told me how her goldfish somehow ended up her dinner. I laughed. Charlotte's mom was so kooky sometimes.
Then our teacher called the class to attention. After he took attendance, April raised her hand.
"May I go to the bathroom?" she asked. The teacher sighed, then nodded. April walked over to the pass, then after grabbing it, walked out.
All of the Popular girls giggled and whispered among themselves. They stole glances at me, then went back to giggling. What were they laughing about?
