It all began when we were in the 3rd grade. Me; sloppy Sophie, 9 years old with freshly divorced parents who hated each other and him; put-together and rich Jake, 9 years old with an older sister and totally in-love parents. On the first day of school we were assigned seats at the same desk grouping. Nothing much happened in those first few months- I mean we are both from two different "groups". His group of friends' parents were friends with his parents and they all had play dates frequently. However, I was just a kid in no particular "group" and I just went to school like other kids from struggling homes. He didn't talk to me or play with me much because 'Heaven forbid' he was seen with "Sloppy Sophie" who wore mismatched clothes and knotted ponytails all the time. I lived every-other week at my house with my dad and every-other week at the local motel with my mom and her sister. My mom didn't have a steady job and was getting money from my dad for "help" with the child- load of bs. My dad, working at a

local supermarket in a management position, made about $12 per hour and worked part time which was hardly enough. I got made fun of for my outfits and hair, getting my clothes from Walmart and the Salvation Army, oh! I forgot to mention:-0 I could only wear skirts and dresses, my father was a die-hard Baptist. Fun life, running around and climbing the jungle-gym in my Faded Glory knee length jean skirts and jumpers.
