Once we were back home, I just let it go. "17 YEARS! YOU JUST DECIDED TO TELL ME, NO, YOU DIDN'T EVEN TELL ME, YOU WERE PLANNING ON LETTING IT GO LONGER!" I was so pissed off right then, I had a hard time not lashing out at one of them, and that would be terrible because apparently they're my grandparents. And you just don't go smacking your grandmother. Not that I've ever hit my "parents", my thoughts are getting off track. "Ella is my mom? Why didn't you ever tell me?" The incident with Ella was now shed into a whole new light. She was protecting her only son from the father. I assumed this guy was the father since the officer said my father was deceased. "How would you feel if you'd grown up knowing your mother was in jail for murder?" my "grandmother" said to me. "She's in jail because she was protecting her 4 year old son from a terrible person who happened to be my father," I argued back. "You know why she's in jail David," my grandfather said calmly. "Because she's mentally handicapped?!" My voice was raising. "I just need to go," I said edgily. "David no, you've been running out of here too often, you're going to get an accident because you're not focusing on your surroundings." Wow, they sound really grandparenty now. "You can't make me, you're not my parents."

I pulled up to the hospital. Unscathed. I bypassed the reception desk. "Sir, we are closing off to guests in five minutes." I went straight to Mari's room. She wasn't there. Of course not, maybe the police tape all over the door should've told me something. I quickly found a door with her name on it. She was sleeping. I went and sat down in the chair next to her bed. I laid my head down on the edge. I heard her stir and felt her fingers run through my hair. I lifted my head and she was smiling at me. "Are you alright? With your mom and all?" she asked softly. I nodded in response. She used her mobile to pat the bed. I kicked off my shoes and crawled up next to her. I put my arm under her concussed head. We fell asleep in eachother's arms.

The next morning, we woke around 5 AM, We just laid there and stared at each other for a while. "You really need to go to school David, I'm not kidding. I'm already behind as it is, I need someone to help me catch up," she said slyly. I smirked more so to myself. "Alright, you've got some pretty solid logic there." So I went to school. It wasn't as bad as it was a few weeks ago.

When I got home, my "grandparents" asked me where I had been all day. "School," I said innocently. They looked appeased.
