It was moving day. And Elizabeth Miller wasn't going.
"Eliza! Get out of bed!" her dad yelled from the box-filled kitchen.
"No!" she cried back, huddling under her blankets. There was an audible sigh as he ascended the stairs leading to her bedroom.
"Eliza, look-" he began, opening her door
"No." she repeated flatly.
"I know you miss them, but we need to m-"
"NO!" she bellowed, throwing off her covers and racing out of the room. She hated this, she hated today, she hated it, she hated him. She kept running until she got outside, kept running until she got to Leila's house next door. She needed a hug from her best friend. She knocked on the door.
"We're leaving. Today," Eliza explained with tears in her eyes. Leila's own eyes grew huge, and she stepped into the chilly November air to hug her best friend.
