Areum woke up an hour before her alarm rang. The flight definitely messed with her body clock, she knew that as soon as she saw the clock reading 7:06 am. The sun shined through her hotel window. Her notebooks were scattered across her desk and her guitar smiled at her from the corner of her room.
Should I go to sleep for another hour, or go to the library early? She pondered. On one hand, sleep, on the other, a head start. I could learn more about this place if I go early...going early it is then!
For breakfast, some toast with an egg on it. Was it very healthy? No. Easy? Yes.
She tied her dark brown hair into a high ponytail, letting her bangs fall just a little above her eyes. Clothing? A collared pink sweater and some jeans with her white sneakers would do. And of course, her lucky silver locket.
Guitar? Check. Bike? Check. That was all she needed for the day ahead.
When she stepped outside, the chill air hit her immediately.
Well, if it's gonna be this cold, I might as well go fast!
Areum got on her bike and pedaled away, guitar on her back, picking up on her speed as the wind chased her again.
The sky was grey, but the sunshine glowed brightly in the early morning. It was so exciting, getting to explore a brand new country and see the old buildings and the beautiful pieces of nature that flourished around the place. This country may just be her favorite one so far.
How fast could I go? She pedaled faster, letting go of the handlebars as she swooped through the countless houses and trees. The terrain was quite mountainous, so that meant a lot of hills, but that just made it even more fun.
She looked down at her watch for a second. 7:32 am. Her show started at 9:00. That would mean an hour and a half to learn about the town. Perfect. But she knew she could still go faster on her bike.
More power! She thought, pedaling even faster and feeling the wind on her face. Only 5 more minutes until she got to her destination. At the top of a hill she could see the library standing tall in the distance. Maybe if she went just a little faster, she'd be able to get there 2 minutes earlier than she expected.
She noticed a girl standing in the distance, admiring a tree peacefully.
There's no way I can break without flying off my bike! Areum panicked. Areum rang her bell, hoping the girl would move out of the way fast enough. She was too distracted.
"HOLY SHIT, WATCH OUT!"
With less than a second to react, she had swerved right into her, feeling a burning ache all over her body. Both her and the woman were down on the cold sidewalk. Her guitar was flipped to her side. She hoped to god that it wasn't broken.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't realize I was going so fast, I-"
"It's fine."
"Huh?"
The girl patted down her clothing. A dark green turtleneck sweater with a matching suit jacket on top and leggings underneath. She looked like she was about to fire Areum from a nonexistent job, and their height difference didn't make things any better.
"I just tripped. That's all," the girl assured. Her gloved hands pointed at Areum's guitar.
"Make sure that isn't broken. I bet it was expensive."
Before things could get anymore awkward, Areum swiped her guitar off the floor and bowed again in apology, nearly tumbling over again as she got on her bike. She swerved away, looking at everything except the girl's eyes.
