Y/N POV
The three of us entered the small cafe after agreeing to come here after class earlier. I stood beside Akira, behind Jia as we all waited to place our orders.
"What time should I pick you up?" He asked, not taking his eyes off the menu.
"I'm not sure. Probably not until late," I replied.
He glanced down at me, giving me a skeptical look.
"Y/N, it'll be an apartment full of men, and most of them will be drunk alone with Jia," He stated.
"I thought you were friends with Johnny too?" I questioned.
"I know him and a few of the guys he hangs around from high school, but I'm not very close to them," He said. "I'm just saying maybe you should be a little careful and know when to call it a night,"
"Mm," I lightly hummed. "Fair point."
"I'm ready to help you whenever you're ready to order," The barista said from behind the counter.
"Just a moment, please," Akira said bluntly before turning toward me. "Want anything?"
"A small green tea, but I'm paying for it-"
"Can I get a tall black coffee and a small green tea?" He ordered, cutting me off.
"Sure! Your total will be $13.50," She said, smiling brightly at him.
I quietly watched as he paid for our drinks, not looking her way hardly even once. We waited at the other end of the counter for our drinks. Once the barista finally brought them to the counter, she ignored my existence.
"Your order is ready," She said smiling, looking straight at Akira.
I took my drink, muttering a soft 'thank you' as I did so. I looked up at Akira and waited for him to respond to her as he took his drink. This wasn't anything unusual. I'll admit, he's quite handsome, but I don't see him as much more than a close friend. It's normal to catch young women staring his way with slight blushes and shy smiles on their faces, like the barista now.
He took his drink from the counter and turned away from her without saying a word. I followed once he tugged on my sleeve. I turned back for a quick second to see the young girl's smile drop, and her once happy eyes were glaring at me. I turned away, paying no mind to her reaction.
"Since when do you pay for people's drinks?" Jia asked once we'd sat down with her at the small table.
"Since Y/N is nice to me," He answered without hesitation."
