Chapter Thirty-One
"You do realize Lucifer is probably going to kick your ass once he finds you, right?"
"I'm counting on it."
"Gods, your relationship is fucking weird."
A smirk curved the corner of my lips at Kratos's comment. He leaned on a nearby wall with his arms folded over his chest, glancing over my shoulder where I was piecing together the colors and the sounds. Also in the room was Rowan, who, without saying anything, decided he was just going to tag song everywhere I went for some unknown, annoyed as fuck reason. I didn't give a shit what he thought he was doing, but with him breathing down my neck, it was getting hard to concentrate. Not that he was paying much attention to me. He was too busy watching Kratos like he was a sniper ready to take aim and fire one at the guy's head.
I had no idea why he was doing it in the first place. Kratos hadn't done anything to threaten him personally, except maybe bare his teeth a little, but we all did that, so I had no idea what Rowan's deal was where Kratos was concerned. A little part of me briefly wondered if this was some weird ass way of showing he gave a shit, but I crushed that little part of me real quick because, first of all, why did I give a shit if Rowan cared about me or not? We established that Rowan wasn't someone who particularly gave a shit about me. He was just another parent with abandonment issues. And secondly, I didn't need someone to care about me. I certainly didn't need that from Rowan. I had more important people on my side, one of which was Lucifer, who was getting closer and closer to me once again. I could practically feel him piecing things together in that head of his.
"Twenty creds says he'll find you in less than twenty-four hours," Kratos stated, cocking his head and pushing off the wall to come over and investigate what I was doing. I wondered for a moment if doing acid would make the process go by quicker, considering one of the helpful parts of the drug was mixing up colors and sounds. However, my metabolism would burn through it so fast I'd just get a headache from it.
"Twenty creds says he'll find me in twelve hours," I responded dryly, moving things across the screen in hopes of finding something. I played the sound into my headphones and grimaced at what just sounded more like noise than a song, but I supposed it would sound better when someone sang it. I hoped.
Kratos smirked, but it faded as he seemed to study what I was doing at the computer, but he clearly had no idea what a computer was or how it worked, or what programs I was using. He was probably wondering what kind of alien technology this was and how the fuck it worked.
I caught Rowan visibly tensing over in his brooding corner, but Kratos barely spared him a glance as he watched me.
"So, turning colors into sound," he said, "Sounds like a drug."
"So you know about drugs, but not computers," I said, splicing together another sound clip and playing it back. How the fuck was this supposed to turn into a song? Then, I supposed it wasn't supposed to be some kind of jam as opposed to the Source actually speaking.
"Did plenty of drugs," Kratos replied under his breath, making me sigh and look down at the desk before drawing my eyes back up to where he was standing too close for comfort.
"You trying to make me sad or some shit?" I asked. Kratos gave me a droll stare.
"I can't help how you feel. And don't feel sad about it," he said, making me grunt as I pulled another color off the chart and added it to the list, "The drugs made shit easier."
"They do until they don't," I muttered, making Kratos laugh bitterly.
"True," he agreed, "So why did you ditch Lucifer so quick?" I rolled my eyes.
