"He proposed?!" Jane asked when her mom came home from dinner with a ring on her finger.
"He did."
"And you accepted?!"
"Yes, obviously I did."
Jane plopped onto the couch, trying to process this. She had always been a by-the-rules sort of girl, despite her jumbled exterior. She had never even met the man her mother was marrying. And this meant she would be stepsisters with Eliza. Lately the other girl had given off an aura that was more sad than angry, and she said even less words than when they first met. And yet, the two had bonded a bit, after knowing their parents were in a relationship. They were both nerds, both fangirls, and both FanWings. Jane was even trying to work up the courage to ask her if they could collaborate on a book, since Eliza liked to write and she liked to draw. But that was off topic. She was going to have a whole new family. A redo of sorts. A way to forget she had screwed up her last one.
