Prologue 

As she descended from the ocean she crawled up on the beach, holding the Fire Wren.

         It was cold and defeated. Soggy. The flame in the great bird’s eyes was gone. Vanished. The water washed it out and blew away its dreams. What it could have been. What it never got to be.

         He, dressed in majestic dark robes, an angry flame fluttering in his eye, glared down at the deceased bird.  She smirked as she twirled a long shimmering lock of golden hair on her long bony finger.

         What had she done to his people life, their soul? The heart of his community had come crashing down all because of one outrageous prank. The Drowning of the Bird. Another glided from the clouds, frowning mysteriously. She called to them, frowning.

         “Fire, what is the great bird doing in the hands of Water?” Water’s smirk grew bigger as she held back a laugh with the palm of her hand.

         “The Fire Wren has been drowned.” He answered sullenly. He switched his attention to Water, growling maliciously.

         “You will regret your fault. This day will make history. I have set a curse upon you. Let us call it the wrath of the flame.”
