Georgie never came back to school after she had run away from me.
Fear and anxiety filled me because I had no idea where she went. I wasn't the only one that was worried.
Max was worried about her, too, especially since school was almost over. He had asked to leave before the last bell that signaled the end of the day, stating that he had something to do.
Surprisingly, Ms. Little let him leave and told him to pack up all of his stuff. She normally didn't let students leave early, but she did for him. She knew something that Max was hiding, and I didn't like it one bit.
After the bell had rung for the end of class, I went straight to my locker. I had no idea where Max was, and that annoyed me to no end.
"Ash," I heard Max say from behind me, and I shut my locker and started to walk towards the front door, ignoring my Beta. "Ash, wait up, please," Max called. "I need to talk to you, and it is urgent."
I huffed and turned around to face my Beta. I folded my arms across my chest and scowled, ignoring everyone else. I watched as Max got closer with two younger members of my pack.
"Ash, these are Bethany and Benjamin," Max said as the little girl hid behind him and peeked out. He gestured towards them and looked at me. "They're Georgie's siblings." He gave me a pointed look.
That piqued my interest, and I looked at them. I could tell that they were skinny like her, but that was the only thing that was the same between them, for they had darker hair than she did as well as blue eyes instead of gray. "Really?" I asked, looking at my Beta.
"Yes, we are," the boy, Benjamin said. He kept hold of Max's hand and stared up at me. He was braver of the two, and I could tell that he would be a strong Alpha. "Do you know where our big sister is?" he asked.
I shook my head, no, and my heart started to ache. "I don't," I replied, honestly. "When was the last time you saw her?"
"This morning," the girl, Bethany, said softly. She squeezed Max's hand and placed her cheek on it. "She came into our classroom with a panicked look on her face."
"She almost scared our teacher half to death before asking our teacher to step out," Benjamin added.
I furrowed my brows, confused. "Why?" I asked, and they shrugged their shoulders in unison. "What happened next?"
"Our teacher came back in and told us to go out in the hall. Gingie that is what we call our sister, inspected us and again told us to not go with anyone besides her or Max if she sent him," Bethany said.
"We usually take the bus up here in the afternoons and wait in Ms. Hopkins's class until school is done," Benjamin added. "Gingie usually picks us up before the last bell and take us home."
"Why don't you just go home from school?" I asked, furrowing my brows. I had a little brother their age, and he normally went home from school. I didn't understand why they didn't go home and went straight here after they were done.
They both hesitated and looked at each other. They had this silent communication before they looked at me with wide eyes.
"Because it is a bad place," Benjamin said, and his sister nodded her head in agreement. He cleared his throat and shifted on his feet nervously. "It is unsafe without her there."
"Why?" I asked, having a sinking feeling in my gut. I prayed to the Goddess that what I was thinking was wrong, but the sinking feeling got worse when they just looked at each other again.
"Because of the bad man," Bethany replied. "He does stuff that Gingie doesn't like us talking about."
"Like..?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. I huffed when they shook their heads. "You're not going to tell me either?"
They shook their heads, no.
"Gingie is worried that we would be taken away from her," Bethany said. She chewed on her lip. "You are strong, right?"
I nodded, confused. "I am," I confirmed.
"Can you go check on her? Please? She should be at... home. Do you know where our home is?"
I frowned but nodded my head and looked at Max. "Take them back to the main house and get them checked out by Dr. Morris. I will be there shortly."
"Wait! Are you taking us away from our sister? Please don't," Bethany begged, tears brimming in her eyes. "I don't want to leave her."
I knelt down in front of her, my heart breaking a bit. I had a feeling that something bad was happening at their house, and I needed to check it out. "You won't be separated from your sister," I promised. "I'll bring her straight to the main house."
Bethany hesitated and nodded her head. She still had a worried look in her eyes, and I couldn't help but wonder what my mate told her.
I looked at Benjamin, who had the same grave look on his face. "Keep an eye on your little sister, ok?" I asked, and he nodded his head. 'Report any findings to my father,' I linked Max, and he tensed. 'I want to know what has happened to them.'
'Yes, Alpha,' he said. "Be careful."
I stood and nodded my head, handing my bag over to Max. "Take care of them," I said, looking at my Beta, and he nodded. I took a deep breath and started to make my way towards the entrance.
As soon as I was cleared from the front door, I started to sprint towards the woods. Worry nipped at my heels, and I prayed that I wasn't too late.
Goddess, please keep her safe until I could get there. Please.
