I picked up my speed when I felt her block the bond between us. Worry filled my body, and I couldn't help but wonder if she was in trouble. If so, then whoever was hurting her was going to pay. No one was going to hurt my mate, friend, nor foe.
Anger filled my body, and it took all the control I had not to shift into my wolf form. I had no idea if there were any humans around, and I knew that my father would not be pleased with me if I shifted in front of them.
As soon as I made it to the pack border, I couldn't control my wolf, so I shifted. And, as soon as I had shifted, my wolf picked up our speed until we were flying towards Georgie's house. Nothing stood in our way, the wolves that were out and about ignoring us and continuing with their day.
The smell of blood was so thick that I was surprised that no one else went to investigate and filled my nose as soon as I made it close to Georgie's house. A sense of dread washed over me, making me think that I was too late, my beautiful mate was dead, and there was nothing I could do about it.
The door to her house was open, and I ran in, not bothering to knock or shift back into my human form. And, the scene that I saw when I came in was hard to understand.
On the floor in the living room laid Georgie, black and blue and red, with her father standing over her holding a knife covered with blood that was dripping with blood, her blood. Her eyes were closed, and her skin was pale, paler than it had been. Her breathing was coming in short gasps, and there were many times when she did not seem to be breathing at all.
My vision turned red when I saw him standing over her with the knife and knew that he had done something to her. Blood red anger filled my body while I roared out a warning, and he turned to look at me.
Shock and fear filled his eyes while I stalked towards him, frightened that he had been caught hurting my mate. He wasn't sorry for what he had done, and both of us knew that he wasn't.
"A-Alpha," he breathed out in fear while he backed away from her. He kept the knife in his hands, not even dropping it when he backed away from her. "It's not what i-"
'Silence,' I snarled, interrupting him. My body seemed to be growing hotter while I stalked towards him. I wanted his blood. I wanted him to pay for the troubles that he caused his daughter and his family. 'What is the meaning of this?'
Georgie's father, Dallas, looked at his daughter, his face set hard. "She killed my mate," he said, flicking his wrist, and the knife glinted in the sunlight through the open door. "So, I am going to kill her."
'You are not to lay another hand on her,' I snarled, gnashing my teeth at him. I was seething. How dare he harm my mate. How dare he try to kill my mate in front of me. 'I suggest you move away from her now.'
"And why should I?" Dallas asked. "She is my daughter."
'She is my pack member. She is under my care.' I didn't tell him that she was my mate. I had a feeling that Georgie didn't want him to know, and I was going to respect her wishes. It was the least that I could do, seeing that she was only trying to protect her brother and sister from this... monster.
Dallas sneered. "Then why didn't you or your father come sooner?" he asked. "It seems to me that you didn't care what I did to her."
I growled but didn't reply because he was somewhat right. It had been so quiet that we should have been suspicious, but we weren't.
My father should have known that this was happening.
I should have known that this was happening, but I didn't.
Dallas smirked, knowing that he had gotten me. He took a step towards her and looked at her. An evil sneer appeared on his face, and my heart clenched in fear for my mate, and my anger started to spike. He was threatening my mate, his Luna, and he didn't even know it. "Maybe if I kill her, you all will lis-"
An angry roar escaped my mouth while my wolf took control. I jumped on him before he was able to do anything, ending the life of this sick man who had been hurting my mate.
***
Her heartbeat was the only thing keeping me sane. Each beep of the machine that she was hooked up to let me know that he didn't kill her. I had ruined his plan.
I had ruined his plan, but there was a chance that she wouldn't make it, that she wouldn't wake up from this, and I would be alone.
It had been two days since I had killed him, mauling him to bits and pieces, and the only way I had stopped was my father stopping me with my Beta and his father.
My father had disapproved of what I had done, but he didn't reprimand me, not yet at least. He just told Max to deal with me while he and Max's father, Bryan, dealt with the remains of Dallas.
He had ordered Max to help take care of me because Dallas had stabbed me in the side in self-defense before he could do what he wanted with Georgie.
I had wanted to argue, but the look he had given me told me not to. So, with a warning growl, I followed him away from my mate. I had failed.
A knock on the door brought me out of my thoughts, and when I looked up, I saw my father staring at me with eyes as hard as mine.
"Father," I said, standing and bowing my head. Annoyance filled my body because with him here; I had to act like I was not her mate, even though I had not been acting like one.
"Sit," my father instructed. He watched and waited for me to sit back down, his dark eyes never leaving my face. He closed the door and folded his arms across his chest, not even sitting down in the opposite seat.
I sat down, my pride wanting to stand but knowing better than to do so. I stayed silent, knowing that he was going to say something, condemn my actions.
"You know that I should punish you, correct?" he asked. "You killed a pack member without reason."
I scoffed but stayed silent. I had a reason to kill him. I had a damn good reason to kill him.
"Don't give me that, Ashlyn Laura," my father warned, narrowing his eyes at me. "You know damn well you didn't."
"I did too," I replied, my voice as cold as his. I folded my arms across my chest and leaned my back against my seat. I scowled and narrowed my eyes, daring him to say something different.
"And what is this... reason?" my father asked. He narrowed his eyes, not liking my behavior. I couldn't blame him; I was the same way.
I stayed silent, not knowing how to tell him that she was my mate. I knew that he had accepted me as gay, but I had a small feeling that he hoped that I wasn't.
However, I was, and I was the oldest.
He didn't know if my little brother would make a good Alpha or not, and I had a feeling that he didn't want to try or wait that long to find out if he would make a better Alpha or not.
So, he only had me.
