I watched as the female before me studied me with those gray eyes of hers. My heart pounded in my chest, and I was afraid that she would move away from me.

I had no idea what was going on in that mind of hers and knew that she was processing what I had told her. Goddess, please don't let her be afraid of me, I prayed, partially closing my eyes. Please.

Georgie cleared her throat and looked bright red when I opened my eyes to look at her. She looked away but looked back at me when I gently placed my hand on her cheek and caused her to look at me.

I gave her a hesitant smile, getting a small smile in return. It felt... weird to smile, but she had always been able to get me to smile even when "we" didn't know that we were mates.

"I... want to thank you," she said, looking down because I had taken my hand off of her cheek. She shifted in her seat and looked up at me. "For rescuing, my siblings and me from that... monster. I... don't know what I would have done if... he had hurt them."

I felt my body relax instantly and nodded my head. "It's... no problem," I said. I looked behind me when someone cleared their throat and looked at Laurene to see her watching us with something in her eyes that I didn't like.

Laurene looked at me and then at Georgie. "May... I check her out, Alpha?" she asked, bowing her head when she caught my scowl. "She had been out for two days and needs to... be prepared to answer your father's questions."

I stiffened and set my jaw. I knew that he was going to ask her some questions about what had happened, but I didn't want it to happen so soon. "Did he tell you when?" I asked, my voice cold.

Georgie pulled at my shirt, and I instantly looked at her. Her eyes were wide, and I could tell that she didn't like me being rude to her. "You may," she said. She furrowed her brows, and I could tell that she was worried about her brother and sister. "Will... I be able to see my siblings soon?" she asked softly.

Laurene smiled, and I noticed her whole demeanor changing when Georgie spoke to her. "You may, L-" She stopped what she was going to say and looked at me, her eyes wide. She knew that she was my mate, and I had a feeling that she had accepted her as her Luna.

"You may call me Luna," Georgie whispered, her voice barely audible. Her cheeks turned redder. "But... I'd much rather be called Georgie for now."

I stared at her, happy, and shocked that she accepted her position so quickly. I knew that I was going to have a lot of work to get her prepared for the role, but I knew that she would be able to handle it once she gained confidence in herself.

Laurene nodded and smiled. "Yes, Luna," she said. She cleared her throat and grew serious. "I would like it if I talked to you, privately, without your mate in the room."

I growled loudly and glared at her. Anger flared through my body, as well as this protective feeling that I could not explain. "You want to do what?" I asked through gritted teeth. "I would suggest you change your answer."

"Ashlyn," Georgie breathed out nervously. She pulled at my arm, and I looked at her to see that she was very nervous and did not like me angry.

I turned my gaze to my mate and stared at her, setting my jaw. I knew that she was wanting to argue with me. "What?" I asked, my voice cold.

Georgie cleared her throat and looked down. "I... think that she should look at me, privately," she said, softly. She flinched when I growled and ducked her head closer to her chest.

"And why should I not be here?" I asked darkly. "I am your mate, Georgie. I should know what is happening to you or what has happened to you."

"I know," Georgie said, her voice still soft. "But... I want to do this alone." She looked up at me with those wide eyes of hers, and I knew that I was going to agree with her. "Please?"

I groaned and moved a hand across my face. "Fine," I said, caving in. "But, I want to know everything after she checks you out, ok? I don't want the patient-doctor confidentiality thing pulled out, ok?"

Georgie hesitated but nodded her head. "Ok," she whispered. "But... please, no questions, yet? I... want to figure out and comprehend everything first."

I nodded my head. "I won't push you," I promised. I squeezed her hand and cleared my throat before standing. "I will be back in a couple of hours. Will that be enough time for you?" I looked at Laurene.

"I will contact you when I am done, Alpha," she said, nodding her head. She cleared her throat and shifted on her feet, looking anxious. She was hiding something, and I did not like it one bit.

"That will be fine," I said, narrowing my eyes at her. I looked at my mate to see her watching us with wide eyes. "Contact me if you need me. I will drop anything I am doing for you, ok?"

Georgie smiled in relief and nodded her head. "Ok," she said. "Go take a shower, please. You look like you haven't been taking care of yourself." She narrowed her eyes at me, and I couldn't help but let my lip flicker up, amused.

"I'll take a shower and take a look at your siblings," I said. "Once you have a nap, I will bring them in, ok?"

Georgie scowled but nodded her head. "Thank you," she said.

"Anything for you," I said. I squeezed her hand before leaving, shooting Laurene a look that warned her not to hurt my mate. 'Nobody knows that she is my mate. Is that understood?' I asked.

'Yes, Alpha,' she said.

I nodded my head and left, closing the door gently behind me.

Goddess, please keep my mate safe. She didn't need to be hurt any longer.
