Adriana and Lenny

Berlin

Berlin, Soviet Germany. May 29, 1945.

"Take point and breach the door" Sargent Smith ordered Lenny.

        The soldier ruptured the door and went first into a building where it was suspected that Nazi soldiers were hiding and survived the Russian attack. He rushed in to the first room to the right of the old wooden building.

         Pointing his rifle at a young German soldier who was a young man just like himself, they stared at each other dead in the eye amazed and touched. The German rifle went off and shot a bullet straight through Lenny's left arm. He fell to the ground and Sergeant Smith came in, bullets were shot into the opposing soldiers head causing an instant death. Lenny was in shock thinking the soldier would surrender and not get hurt. The rest of the patoon cleared the building killing every German soul in the building. The battle medic patched him up and called in a jeep for further treatment at the Russian infirmary.

         There he was treated by a woman named Adriana Makarov. The moment their eyes met Lenny isnantly fell in love with her jade looking green eyes and long straight blonde locks going down her back. He was advised to rest and do nothing for two days until he was able to move his arm better and heal. After two days of being quite and yearning to speak with Adriana about more than just his arm and medic terms he pretends to understand, he finally asks her for a cup of coffee during her lunch break. She giggled due to his condition, and was concerned of him asking her out for coffee, but accepts making the soldier smile.

        Later in the day they met in the cafeteria for their coffee and became involved in an engaging conversation. Lenny asked her where she was from and she responded Moscow with a beautiful Russian accent which attracted him very much.

He replied, "I am from the big apple, you know, New York"

        They began talking about their interest in art; literature, paintings, and music. They accustomed to meet daily for coffee for the next three weeks. In June 18, 1945 the soldiers unit was informed that they would be heading back to the United States the following week. As soon as the information was out Lenny ran out of the room looking for Adriana to let her know about his orders. She told him to relax and suggested that he right her everyday and gave him her address. For that final week they spent every second they could together, talking, dreaming and kissing. Sadly the 25th came along and Lenny had to go back to New York and Adriana was to stay in Moscow. They kissed in the middle of the road, not as a farewell, but as an I'll see you later.
