It was a cold Friday afternoon and Alannah was finishing her last 15 minutes of school. The teacher was sat rambling on at the front of the room and all the other kids were scribbling away at their own desks. Alannah was unable to concentrate at this point, she was just thinking about what's going to happen when she goes home.
Life at home wasn't easy for her, her father was an alcoholic and her mother was abusive. It started when she was about four, her father came home one day from work with tears streaming down his face assuming he was fired, he went straight to the cupboard and downed about half a bottle of beer.
One day her mother was washing the dishes and Alannah had accidently bumped into her and the plate had smashed. Her mother was furious and slapped her across the face hard.
Now Alannah had to be locked away at all times in order to not get beaten by her parents. School was the only real getaway from all of the depression at home. Some teachers did notice a couple of bruises on her arms and asked her about it but Alannah didn't speak, she was too afraid that if she said something she would be hurt even more.
So she lived her life being horribly treat and silent everyday, she had almost no friends at school, the other kids would make fun of her for being so quiet and her grades were dropping too.She soon got out of her thoughts when the bell suddenly rang. She slowly packed up all of her books and pencils and slowly made her way to the exit. She didn't want to leave but she had no choice. At the school gates her father was standing there half drunk as usual with an angry looking expression on his face. Once Alannah had got to him, he immediately grabbed her hand and started walking home.
At home he practically threw the poor girl I'm the house and locked the door behind him. The girl immediately ran up to her room and locked the door behind her. Alannah had developed some skills over the past couple of years, she knew how to lock and unlock things, she could sense when anyone was coming from a distance and she knew how to pick locks too (seem as the kitchen doors where always locked).
Luckily for the girl she had managed to steal one of her parents old mobile phones too so incase something really bad happens she has a way to communicate with people.Later that night Alannah felt hungry from not eating all day, she grabbed a hair pin and carefully tip toed down the stairs. She carefully unlocked the door and grabbed an apple. She locked the door and ran back upstairs, she took out her phone, put her headphones In and played some relaxing music, she sat at the window looking out at the beautiful city in front of her and whispered to herself
"I can't wait to be free.. "
