Hi I'm Anastasia, my friends call me Ana. I'm 17 and I'm just your normal small town girl I guess. I go to school, do my homework, hangout with my friend (yes singular) and argue with my sister and that's pretty much it . Ah the life I live. I'm planning on changing that when I go away for summer camp. This summer camp is for Christians only aged from 16-18. Apparently this is because the topics we discuss are not for the young, whatever that means. I plan to make loads of friends who hopefully will get me. I hope at least one person will.
It was my dads idea to send me to this, he said I needed some reformation and to go back on God's good side, so that is what I'm going to do.
Today is Friday 9th July, I go away on Monday. Today is my last day of school before summer! I'm hoping most of my lessons are chilled and fun, well however fun can count in a lesson then yes, fun.'ANA COME ON OR IM GOING TO LEAVE YOU TO WALK!' My sister Florence (Flo) yells at me. 'I'm coming I just needed to get my bag!' I say running down the stairs.
'Bye dad!'
'Bye dad!'
We both say in sync to our dad waving at us whilst on the phone, he's always on that phone on some kind of business call. He's an architect and a very good one which is why he gets so many phone calls 24/7. One time it was my 15th birthday, I was just about to blow my candles out and RING RING goes his phones and he hurried off. This was in the middle of a restaurant surrounded by my family, he was meant to be the one taking the video. The last seconds of that video is him saying 'I HAVE to take this I'm so sorry sweetie, carry on without me.' And the image is me frowning. Happy bloody birthday to me!
Well that's in the past now. Last year, for my 16th, I actually managed to blow my candles out AND eat the cake before he dashed off. Baby steps.I was sat in chemistry as the final bell went off and everyone cheering. I turned to look at my friend and we both smiled. 'Come on Ana we can't miss a second out before you go!' Jade smiles. Thing about mine and Jades friendship is that we are completely opposite, but it works. She's a very open lesbian, confident and obsessed with music. I'm a straight girl who is awkward and shy. But some how it works.
'Hold on I'm just packing up my pencil case!' I smile as she walks over to my desk. 'Ana pretty much all our class has left HURRY UP!' She jumps. I get up and we walk out to Flo waiting for us at her car. 'Ok so where did you want me to drop you again?' Flo asks. 'Nearest supermarket please' Jade smiles. Flo nods and we all get in the car.
We arrive at your good ol Tesco. Jade and I get out the car and head inside, just before I hear 'ANA' from Flo. 'Yeah?' I turn around. 'Can you get me some tampons? And I'll pay you when you get home.' She says and I nod. 'Cool thanks!' She smiles as she zooms off.
'Ok so remind me why did we come to Tesco?' I ask whilst picking up a basket. 'Well Ana you need essentials for your summer trip, and I wanted to be the one to get them with you' she grins. 'Ah like what essentials?' I ask. 'Just follow and you will see!' She replies as we start to walk around the isles.
Things Jade counts as essentials:
-deodorant (handy)
-a vogue magazine (questionable but ok)
-wet wipes (apparently for when I go climbing, she's definitely thinking of a different summer camp)
-sweets: haribos, wine gums and fruitellas.
-gum (fair)
-mini first aid kit (good idea)
-breath spray (also fair)
-tampons (for me and Flo)
-condoms (which I objected to)
Apparently these are all must haves but I would have to object to some of those.Soon enough we're back at my house, dad is home so I made sure to hide the condoms or he would have a heart attack, you know Christian and all. No sex before marriage, he's a conservative dad. Which also means when Jade comes to my house she is a straight girl with a boyfriend called Alex (she actually has a girlfriend called Alex, so at least she never says the incorrect name.)
It's Sunday morning now, Jade stayed over the whole weekend. It was such a fun weekend, dad was away so Flo bought Jade and I some alcohol, it was WKD and it was lovely.
One thing to know about Flo is she has very opposing views to my dad, but she doesn't argue with him as she knows it'll get her nowhere. For my benefit though it means she will get me alcohol. She gave me a couple cans of cider as well to which she told me to bring to camp to, and I quote 'drown out the virginial middle aged adults'. It made Jade laugh anyways.
Jade left before we headed to Church and we soon finished our prayers and hymns. We head home and Flo helps me pack my bag.
'Ana, please don't let anyone know about mum. It's just private for us ok?' I nod. 'Also is that my jumper?!' She says picking up her jumper. 'Please can I bring it?!' I say. 'No it's my favourite one!' 'Clearly not if you didn't notice until now!' I reply. 'Hmph, fine. You can have it this once. DONT ruin it' she says. And I nod. Soon enough we're done packing. Flo leaves and I pack Jades essential things, yes even the condoms. Not the whole packet though only 2, I would've felt guilty otherwise as she bought this all herself, she insisted.
I can't wait for camp to begin.
