Fonzie's POV:
After I put the kid to bed, a thought dawns on me, and I remember that I had made plans with someone, a lady someone. I freak so much that I almost yell out loud, so I run to my room and grab one of the pillows off my bed to scream in it. What was I thinking bringing this kid into my life? Now I gotta shew away all my girls. There's no way I can have a chick and do all the things I want to her when a kid's around. Ain't no way.
Breaking me out of my thoughts, I hear a knock at the front door. Thankfully, the knock is gentle enough not to wake Bobby. I basically sprint to the door and look out the peephole. Just as I thought–Laverne. I sigh then crack the door slightly open. There the curly brunette with perfect red lips stands in all her shameless glory. I wanna kiss her all over, but I've gotta stay strong. "Laverne," I whisper. "Now's not a good time."
"WHAT?" Laverne screams. "I'm as deaf as a bat you know."
I swing the door open wide and fling both my arms around her face to make her quiet, then escort her to the porch outside. "Quiet. There's a sleeping kid inside."
I let go of her so she can speak. "A kid?" she whisper-yells. "How'd a kid get in there, Fonzie?"
"Sshh. It's kinda hard-ta explain."
She glares at me. Oh no. I'm in for it now. "Did you seriously knock some girl up that's not me? How could you?"
I take a step back. "Look, this happened long before I even knew who you were. This kid is mine, sure, but from, like, seven years ago. Some dame dropped 'em off with me this morning, alright? If it were my choice, I wouldn't have took 'em in, but he has no one."
Laverne pauses and stares at my shoes. "Well, now what?"
I shrug. "Looks like I'll have to be playin' it safe from now on. Don't wanna scar the kid, ya know."
She twists her face in a bunch. "This is just not fair. I was looking forward to this. Is the kid asleep?"
"Well, yeah, but-" I protest. She isn't convinced.
"Well nothin'. He's asleep, which means we can do what we please. Let's do this. Let's have some adult fun." She emphasizes the word "adult." How can I say no to that?
Before I could say yes or no, the chick pushes past me and enters the apartment. I gasp at her outright defiance, but what can I do? It ain't like I can hit her. That just wouldn't be right. "Fine," I whisper, "but we have to be super quiet. Come on." I lead her into my bedroom, turn out the light, and close the door. The rest is history, or so I hope.
Bobby's POV:
I open my eyes just a crack when I hear Daddy close his bedroom door. They thought I was asleep, but I'm a really good pretender. I wonder who that woman is? I think I heard daddy whisper a name...like Lucy or Lulu or something. I hope she doesn't stay long because every time my momma used to bring her boyfriends over, it was always so loud. I could never get to sleep until they left.
Problem is if I don't pretend to sleep, I could get caught, and that never ends good for no one. One time I got out of bed to get a drink of water when my mommy had Buck over, her last friend. He saw me, and when he saw me, he poured my water on my head. For no reason. Well, he could've been drunk 'caus he was really smelly. Since then, I don't like getting up at night, unless I really have to.
I stay still as still can be under my blankets and Daddy's jacket while I try to fall asleep. It stinks trying to sleep though when all I hear is creaking that never ends. Every time I would hear creaking from my mommy's room, she would always tell me it was the bats in the ceiling. Does Fonzie have bats too?
