Choosing the Name

It's been on my mind ever since we found out what we are having. We do have a little more to go but, I still can't believe we made it this far. After the miscarriage and several tried to get pregnant but to no avail, I had really lost all hope that I would ever be a mom. But, here I am, six and a half months pregnant, going onto seven, with a little girl. I cannot even bring myself to picture Hardin and how overprotective he'll be for his baby girl. I mean, I have experienced his control over me but, a daughter... that's a whole other story.

"What are you smiling about?" I heard him ask. We're both on the couch, with my legs resting onto his lap. I'm lost in deep thought while trying to read and Hardin's working on his laptop."What... nothing, I was just thinking""About what?""About... you and how, controlling you're gonna be""I wouldn't say controlling. I would call it more... 'if you touch my little girl, I will hunt you down and kill you' protection... service"

I giggle, placing my book onto the table and slowly sitting up. Hardin took the liberty to place away his laptop, gesturing me to move closer. I lean my head against his shoulder, bringing my feet underneath me.

"You know, we should really start thinking of some names""Names, huh... well, did you have some in mind?" he asks."Uhh, not really... how about Rachel?" I ask, slightly smiling."Rachel Scott... it doesn't have a nice ring to it, don't you think?""Hmm, it really dooesn't, does it?""How about Nicole and... in short they can call her Nikkie?" Hardin says, chuckling right after."Nikkie... sounds like a stripper's name""I knew you would say that" he yelled."Pheobe Scott?""Tess, is this going where I think it's going?" he groans."Monica Scott?" I giggle."Oh my GOD, I am not naming my kid after that fucking TV show""What... I like them" I laughed.

After a few minutes to control my laughter, I finally settled down.

"How about... Emily?" I say."Tessa, for the last time, I am not naming my kid after - ""I didn't mean it like that, this time.

"I'm serious, especially not even a main character anyways"
"I meant it as in... Emily Bronte. You know, the author..."
"Ohh..."
"Hmmmm, now who's accusing who?"
"I'm sorry, baby. Emily Scott..."
"You like it?"
"I don't know, it's sounds a bit too common"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean like, you hear a lot of 'Emilys' I just thought maybe we should choose a name a bit more... original"
"Original, huh? How come you never told me this?"
"Well, I never really thought about it until now. I mean, if you don't want to, I get it. I just thought that it'll make sense since, you know... we are not that traditional"

I smile at him and bite my lip. Without realizing, I find myself inching closer and capturing his lips in a slow, agonizing kiss.

"What was that for?""Nothing, I just wanted to kiss you""Hmmm, am I turning you on, Tessa?""Always but... thank you""For what?""I don't know... for stating your opinion""I always state my opinion""Obviously but... for this, I just appreciate it""Well, I'm glad you think that""Hmmm, so... do you have something in mind, Mr. Scott?""Ummm, Ursula...?""Ahhh, who's making jokes now?"He chuckled "All right, all right... let's get serious for a second"

We stay for a good hour trying to come up with 'original names' but, we only seem to get ridiculous by the second. The internet is no help as they all sound way to common. Hardin's right after all, we are definitely not a traditional couple so, it would make sense to just have our child to relate to us."Okay, this looks like it's going nowhere. We should just stop now before we settle for a ridiculous name""Oh, come on. We just have to think outside the box. We can do it, baby""Hardin, we have been going at this for an hour. I'm all thought out""Okay, how about... Emery?""Emery..."Hardin was staring at me like, waiting for me to respond. "Do you like it?""I do... how did you come up with that?"Well, I kind of liked Emily but, like I said, it was too common so, this sounded better""Hmmm, Emery Scott. I kind of like it""Huhh, you see... not just a hat rack" he said, pointing at his head.I bursted laughing right at that moment. For a guy who claims to hate the classic TV show, he sure does seem to know it pretty well."Oh... my... GOD" I managed to say in between laughter., which seemed to trigger his right back.
