I could feel the cool wind in my hair as I made my way across the field. As the coach told me my time I sighed in disappointment. I knew I could do better than this. I looked down while walking back to the start and that's when I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I looked to my side and figured out it was Ayumu...not only was she my best friend but she was my cousin as well.
"Hey y/n, you did great out there!" Ayumu giggled. I guess she tried to lighten up the mood which had worked. I smiled and shortly after replied, "Thank you Ayumu, it means a lot..!" We walked back to where our coach asked us to meet and not even 5 seconds into the meeting, we felt the ground beneath us begin to tremble. My teammates and I began to duck and cover our heads given that we were surrounded by potentially dangerous materials.
After the rumbling had calmed down our coach asked us to contact our parents and to quickly change back into our casual clothes which we all agreed to do and headed over to the locker rooms quite quickly.
Echoing voices could be heard as we changed out. I had gotten everything on and was now slipping on my shirt as some of my teammate's phones began to ring. "It's an earthquake warning.." One girl said with worry in her voice. "I'm sure it's just an aftermath of the first earthqu-" another girl replied but was cut off by a violent earthquake suddenly hitting. Everything was shaking and objects of all sorts were flying around.
Miraculously, I hadn't got hit too badly, I only got a medium-sized wound on my cheek. I stood up and looked around..most of my team was dead. I immediately screamed out my cousin's name. "Ayumu..! AYUMU!?" Finally, I felt a wave of relief hit when I heard her voice yell back, signaling that she was alive.
We both ran out of the stadium as we planned to check up on our families. "Go was home alone, I have to make sure he's okay!" Ayumu yelled as I nodded. "Mom and dad should have been home by now so I'll check if they're okay too!" I replied. We both agreed to meet in front of Ayumu's house after checking up on our families.
