CHAPTER TEN
WHAT YOU DO FOR LOVE

WREN WAS STARTING TO REMEMBER. It was as if her life and past suddenly became unfiltered, and now her eyes were seeing everything in a less saturated and unclear tone. She was feeling herself crumble each passing day, her soul being devoured by Voldemort's and she still didn't know why. Why had he gone through all the trouble to make her a horcrux? He didn't gain anything from it but her misery, and maybe that's why. Maybe, Wren was only supposed to carry misery and decay in her veins and her being a horcrux was the final anchor pulling her to the life she was supposed to live.

But Wren wasn't content with this life anymore.

She had no fire in her veins to fight back, no love to fuel her. The girl was just floating, and she figured that maybe she was drowning incredibly slowly. Wren was living life minute by minute, and nothing ever seemed to ease the pain inside her. But, the girl knew she had to keep a distance, if she got any close she'd put the ones she loved in danger. She had been keeping close to Severine though, because it was almost impossible to keep the girl away and the brunette knew she'd stop the Dark Lord before anything happened to her best friend. She had to.

She couldn't risk the lives of Regulus Black and Severine Prime.

Wren would often daydream about what would've happened if she'd confessed her feelings along with Regulus. She wondered if it would be inevitable for him to hate her, usually it was. Loving Wren Stonem was like loving the past. It's gone before you can even fully remember it. But most of all, Wren wondered what she was going to do. While Regulus and Wren were working together for such a short time, they had figured out a plan to find out where one of the horcruxes resided. The plan had been Kreacher. The youngest Black child's house elf. The brunette wondered if she could get to the House Elf in some way because this was her last chance at saving those she loved.

She was pouring her heart into saving the world instead of a boy. And though that seemed like a small sacrifice, Wren Stonem loved that boy more then anything.

The Stonem girl had seen Regulus around the halls, but he never looked like himself. He always looked dead, a walking corpse instead of a boy and it always managed to break Wren's heart even further. Did she do that? The female hoped when she was gone, maybe even erased from Regulus's memory, that he would lead a happy, fulfilling life. No matter how much she wanted to be in his arms, or holding his hand or staring into his eyes. All of this would be worth it, because it meant he would be safe. Wren could tell he was still planning, that he had also thrown himself into his work, the girl just hoped she was faster then him at doing this.
