The Attic

       Luna walked up the stairs to the attic. She was playing a game of hide and seek with her 10-year-old brother, Luka, while her mom was away at work. She searched the whole house except the attic. Opening the attic door, she brushed aside the stray cobwebs. It was dark. Very dark.
      She tried to hit the light switch but it didn't work- the light flickered for a second before it went out, the bulb shattering in the process. She could smell the mold and a weird smell of old decay. The attic smelled as if it was dying. "Luka?" She called out for her brother but no response. She went to take a step when suddenly her foot caught on something. She hit the crooked planks and the smell seemed to grow stronger.
       Luna sat up and looked to see what she tripped over only to see one of her mother's old suitcases. The smell of something decaying inside was very strong indeed. She slowly went to open it to see what was inside just as her brother came in, a look of disgust appeared on his face as soon as he walked in.

"What is that terrible smell?!" he asked his sister, forgetting about the game of hide and seek they were just playing a moments ago. "I don't know Luka, it's coming from one of mother's old suitcases," Luna told him before adding "but I'm going to find out what it is". Slowly she opened the suitcase. Her face became horrified as she screamed at the sight of the suitcase, her brother's face turning pale yet almost sickish at the sight of their father in their mother's suitcase...
