The wind whistled through her hair as she ran. It didn't bother her in the slightest, for all she wanted was to get away from the place where she was abused. With a shudder, she tried to push the memories out of her head, but deep down inside, she knew they'd never leave her. She remembered seeing Mother fall on the floor, leaking blood from an open gash in her side. She hoped she was dead. Then she remembered Leo, and it hit her with a pang: she would never see him again. She had only seen the good side when she had made the choice to run away, but now, remembering Leo, she had opened her eyes to the bad side of her plan.
"It's okay," she said aloud to herself. "Leo will find me again someday."
This seemed to calm the lump in her stomach, and she was motivated to keep running.
