I held onto Crocklie's mane as he galloping. We were near the middle and I could run my hand across Sancha's back if I wanted to. Winty was on Crocklie's other side with El. Ash and August were on the outside of the circle gallop thing. Reginald was leading the way. We stopped once we got to a field. (How to pronounce the names: crocklie is croak-lee, sancha San-cha, winty win-tee, El is exactly as it looks, ash exactly as it looks, August like exactly it looks, Reginald is regg-I-nald)
"You need off?" Crocklie asked me.
"I'm fine, you graze" I said. He reached his head down and started to graze while I looked around August looked around carefully as well but he was grazing also. If I saw anything I was to tell them and off they went. MThe hot sun beat down on my bare, sun burnt shoulders. I looked up at the sky and saw that it was midday. I have no clue were we are going but I'm sure ill find out soon. Looked around the clearing. It was open and beautiful. There were trees a on the edge but besides that nothing but grass and weeds. The herd finished grazing and we set off again. I pushed my shaggy brown hair, behind my ear, well it was once brown, now it is a caramel dirty blonde, from the sun bleach. Crocklie was walking, we were at he start of the herd, behind us was Sancha, Crocklie's mare, they are the leaders of our herd. Winty was in the middle of the herd, with her 2 twin foals, Ash and El. August and Reginald were the Caboose. We all walked, you could hear the sun bugs, and the tails of the horses swishing, keeping the flies away in the background.
"We will go up around 1mile, and then past through that stream, over to the waterfall, then we will settle their for the night."Croklie announced. We continued walking. I sat on Croklie's back, the odd time, we would trot a bit. After a long hour, we reached the waterfall. We all drank, I scooped the water in my hands, and drank out of my hands.
"It's getting late"Sancha announced. That was the hint, for the herd to settle in for the night. I laid on Croklie's back, with me head on his farther back and feet. We all slept. In the morning, I woke up to Ash and El fighting over the fallen apple, off the tree. I walked up and cut it in half for them.
"Thanks Crystal, YOUR nice"El said, turning to Ash. Ash rolled his eyes and cantered away. Everyone else was asleep, so I decided to go out hunting for my breakfast. I sharpened a piece of wood of a birch tree to use as a knife. I walked into the forest. You could hear the birds singing their morning melody. I climbed the tallest tree. The view was incredible. I could see wildlife buzzing around. The scent of the dew warmed my heart, it felt like home. I saw a tree full of crab apples. I hoped from tree to tree, until I reached the jackpot. There was so much, enough to feed for a few days. I took an hour to string a basket together with dandelion stems. Then, I filled the basket with apples. I returned to the herd, they were all awake, drinking in the stream.
"Crystal, Crystal CRYSTAL"Ash screamed. I smiled and set my basket on a rock.
"Hey Hun"Croklie said. I waved. I am considered family to this herd, my parents left me when I was young, at a stream near is one, Sancha found me and they raised me. I are my first apple. I was starved. It's hard to find food around here. We all ate breakfast then headed out, to find our next destination. Ash and El were fighting the whole way.
"But, I can canter faster"El said, backing up her argument. El and Ash are the foals of Winty. El is six months and Ash is a year and a half. They are half siblings since August is El's father and Reginald is Ash's father
"I can jump higher."Ash said, running ahead of the herd, and jumping over a log
"Hey, get over here Ash"Winty called out, she is always very protective of her foals. I laid on Crocklie's back, looking st the sky, you can see the birds flying in every direction. I turned to by stomach, behind me was August and Reginald.
"So ats how I pick my hoof with a rock"August said, finishing his story. I laughed and turned around facing Crocklie's mane. He has a very long mane, I cut their manes For them when they get to long. "I like to play bushes next to us.
"Run"I heard Reginald, he must know something is there. They broke out galloping. I looked back while holding on to Crocklie's mane. a mountain lion was behind us.
"Aaa aaaa AAAAH"I heard the foals scream. Winty and August picked both youngsters up by their nose, and threw them in their backs. We started going faster now, whatever it is, it's following us. Up ahead I saw a sick horse, laying on the ground.
"Croaklie"I said. Pointing in the direction. We nodded and picked up a faster lace to the horse. We all formed he herd circle around the foals and the hurt horse. It was a Mountain lion. Reginald reared to show imitation. The lion backed up. August flew up onto his hind legs, following with Croklie. The lion ran off, clearly scared. We all turned to the hurt horse. She looked near death....
