When disaster strikes, you're left with nothing and in some cases, no ONE. At age 15, while at my family home an intruder came. My parents texted m.e "Halo, take your brother and hide in the storage area above your door and don't make a sound." My parents werent as lucky. They were shot dead. After the perpetrator left, he set the house on fire. I barely made it out alive with my 8 year old brother; Ari. Having nowhere to go, and no place to call home, Ari and I wandered the streets for a month. I stole and scavenged to provide for the two of us. Then one fateful rainy day we woke to see a middle aged man holding an umbrella.
"My name is ray"

Ray? Ray is a glimmer of light in a dark room. "Do you kids have any family?" "No. our parents parished." "My wife Fauna cannot give birth but her greatest wish is to raise children, so how would you kids like to come and life with us?" * I look at Ari and my eyes ask the question I dared not speak out loud* "sis I wanna real meal and a hot bath." I couldn't have asked for a clearer answer. "Well I guess that settles it. We will stay for a couple days to see how it goes. I won't give an answer until I stay at least two nights." " Oh! I forgot to tell you about Max. That's our adopted son. You look to be about his age. Hes turning sixteen in a month." " Really? My birthdays the 17th of next month!" Ray looks at me shocked." That's Max's birthday, he whispers almost inaudibly." *He looks like he's just completed a puzzle hes been trying to complete for years. "The letter!" He exclaims out loud* Ari and I look back at him with mirrored confusion.
