I need Joey. I have no idea how long I’ve been here but it feels like an eternity. He’s my rock and I’m floating away without him.

I need to get my mind off of these dreadful thoughts. Might as well climb the tree again to see what other random stuff I find.

I walk back over to the tree and climb the sturdy trunk just a little bit higher than I did before. At the end of one skinny branch I see a pair of reading glasses dangling off of it like a Christmas ornament. Wait. Those are Joey’s glasses.

My grandma always told me that the first thing that you should love about someone is their eyes because your eyes never age. So if you fall in love with their eyes, you’ll be in love forever…

“SHANE! COME AND HELP ME WITH THESE BOXES!” Joey yells from downstairs. This is the third day of finally unpacking things and I’m hoping it’s the last. I’m pretty tired and I’m dozing off on the floor in our new bedroom. I rub my face and trudge down the stairs while yawning.

“I’m here,” I sigh. He’s holding a heavy ass box and I think he’s going to drop it.

 I was right.

“Dammit!” he exclaims as his glasses fall of his face and the box slips out of his hands at the same time. The box ends up falling on his glasses. They crush underneath the weight of the box.

“Since when did you start wearing glasses?” I ask him.

“Since I was 16 when I couldn’t even see the chalkboard from the front row. I usually wear contacts but I lost them!”

“Well can you see without them?”

“No! No I can’t! I’m practically blind without them.”

 “Do you have another pair?”

 “Yeah but they’re dorky looking.”

 “Where are they?”

“In that box behind you.” I turn around and pull out the “Dorky” looking pair of glasses from the box he’s pointing to. I walk up to him and place them on his face for him. His hands immediately fly up to his face to cover it.

“What are you doing?” I ask him.

 “I’m hideous!”

“No you’re not.” I say, pulling his hands down to his sides. I keep them in my hands and swing them back and forth. “You look perfect.”

“I can’t wear these. I have to vlog today.”

“Whatever is hidden within us, the eyes will bring to the surface. At least your viewers will get to see the true you.”

"But I look like a doofus."

"But you're my doofus."

 “I need my contacts, Shane.”

“You don’t need anything but me.”

“Do you want me to look into your eyes?” he asks me.

“No.” I say. “I’m afraid that if you do, you’ll see the desire in my eyes, the way I crave you.”

“Well haven’t you seen that in my eyes already?”

“I seen it when we first met at Vidcon in 2008. I’ve seen it for a while, Mister Graceffa.” I say, leaning in. Our lips soon connect as warmth fills my heart. The kiss only lasts for a few seconds because Sawyer soon bursts through the door with another box in his arms. Joey and I immediately separate, letting our hands fall to our sides as we stare off into a random direction like nothing just happened.

We haven’t come out yet and Sawyer has been helping us move. He thinks that we’re just going to be roommates, but Joey and I have looked at each other for way too long to be just friends.

“Are you two okay?” Sawyer asks. “You look lost.”

“We’re fine.” Joey says. Joey and I look into each other’s eyes. We both know how we feel, but that’s all we can share. All we can do. Our love is simply impossible.

And that’s what makes me want it even more.
