6. "Partners."

The next morning it was the usual. My mom making me a quick breakfast before she goes off for work and me going to school.

Since I wasn't there yesterday I had to make sure I got the absent work and turned in my old homework- to the teachers that would take it.

In Spanish class we had got a new teacher and she changed our seats around in alphabetical order. My last name being Perez I was close to the back and Aaliyah was in the middle. I was 2 seats behind her but she didn't pay me any mind.

After lunch English class had rolled around.

"Perez and Aaliyah may I see you two please?" Mr. Hugh said as we both went up there. "Since you two weren't yesterday you missed a lot. We picked partners and started our quarterly project. As you know we have just finished reading The Scarlett Letter and we discussed the project to it yesterday. Since you missed your chance to pick partners yesterday you two are each others partners. Your task is to create a children's version of The Scarlett Letter and you may either act it out with a narrator or create a visual power point." He handed us rubrics and we went back to our seats.

Before I went back to my seat I stopped at Aaliyah's desk. "So uhh what are we going to do?"

"I really don't care."

Ouch

Cold shoulder.

"Cool." Was the last thing I said before going to my desk. It's been how many weeks? Like 3. What's her problem.

Aaliyah's Point of View

I was already annoyed that I got grounded and then Hugh makes me and Jacob partners. A few weeks ago I didn't really have a reason to be mad at him but I figured out a reason.

I decided that I don't want to be close to Jacob because if Nicole comes across the situation it's going to be some problems. Right now I don't really need any more problems.

I have been hanging out with Meenna and Jessica. Well, not recently but I mean, yeah.

After school I had to talk to Jacob about planning this project out.

Jacob's Point of View

"Me and Meenna going to the Lakers game this weekend, you down J?" Chres had asked me as we talked on campus after school.

"Is this like a double date or something because I already know I ain't going. Nicole gon have a bitch fit and not go so I'm gonna be a third wheel." I said as Ray came up laughing.

"Yeah cause she is a bi-" Ray said.

"Chill out." I said interrupting him.

"Um Jacob can I talk to you for a minute?" I heard Aaliyah's voice next to me say.

"Well hey stranger." Ray said pushing her.

She smiled and pulled his braid. "Not in the mood." She said smiling as he struggled. "Anyways, can we talk?" She said as I nodded and we walked a few steps away.

"We still gotta talk about this project so um any day is good." She said.

"Is today at 5 good?"

She looked at her phone then talked, "Yeah I guess. I'll give you my number and just call me when you on your way."

She called my phone, hung up, and left without a word to a silver car.

I walked back over to where the guys were. "Did I do something to her because it seems she really hates me."

"It's Nicole, she told me." Jessica said. "I mean she just moved here leaving the drama in Michigan so her whole point is to stay out of drama."

That is possibly the reason or like I said she really hates me. I didn't say that out loud though I just nodded and walked to get on the school bus.

Aaliyah's Point of View

"Hey grandma." I said putting on my seatbelt.

"Hey, how was school." She said pulling off.

"Alright, I have this project I have to do. So can my partner come over at five?"

"Who is it?"

"This boy named Jacob."

She continued driving for a few minutes before speaking. "What are you guys gonna be doing?"

"We have to discuss how we're going to make a children's video for the book The Scarlett Letter." I said as we got closer to the house.

"Seems interesting. It's a discussion so it shouldn't take longer than a hour. Your still grounded. 6 o'clock, time to go alright?" She said stopping in front of the house.

Only if she knew I didn't want him there period. "Yes ma'am." I said getting out of the car and going into the house.

I think I'm going to take a nap.
