𝐊𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐍 tapped her foot against the grassy floor of the forest as she sat outside of the Akatsuki lair, basking in the moonlight by herself. She closed her dull amber eyes, and opened them once again, hoping she could finally go away and join Yahiko in heaven. Her heart was dead and broken and she was in hell 24/7.
Her short purple hair flew softly through the wind, as she lowered her face through her cloak so that nobody could see her face, she felt unworthy. She wished she could disappear, and be happy. But she promised Pein, she promised Nagato, that she would stay alive, and she was going to stay alive for Yahiko and Nagato.
She closed her eyes, hoping that she could fall asleep and never wake up. She didn't notice a figure approaching her and sitting down next to her. She didn't notice their intense gaze on her. She didn't notice that he was quiet and peaceful for her. She didn't notice him, Pein. He looked at her peaceful but heartbroken expression, furrowing his fiery orange eyebrows, he adored her. She was fragile to him, the last fragment of hope and he understood her. He understood the pain she went through, and he respected her.
He cared about her, she was the last person keeping his sanity, she was always there for him. Helping him with paperwork, gathering recruits, managing him and everyone else, not to mention powerful. He admired her so much, and would die for her sake any day. He wished he'd been the one to die instead of Yahiko, he knew that she loved Yahiko, and Yahiko loved her.
But ever since then, he slowly had fallen into the trap that was falling in love with Konan. His biggest mistake, and biggest treasure.
"Konan." He whispered, tapping her shoulder, as she opened her eyes and looked at him, a little surprised that he took his time to find her.
"Nagato... What do you need?" She asked as she tried to make herself seem more presentable in front of Pein.
"No, I wish nothing from you... I simply wanted to find and see you." He said, as Konan stared at his mesmerizing rinnegan eyes. She remembered throwing up the first time she saw them, because she felt awful for using Yahiko's body. "I finished my paperwork, so how are you feeling?"
He knew she wasn't doing very well, he just wished for her to open up to him, because she was always quiet and monotone, rather than kind and cheerful. Konan had changed.
Konan stared at him surprised, he doesn't usually ask these types of questions, especially to her. "Nagato..." She trailed off, "I miss Yahiko." She said, her voice getting softer by the mention of his name. Pein clicked his tongue, he was jealous, and stared at her amber eyes, memorizing her face for the trillionth time.
"I do too. We both do, but we must live for him, and we must live for each other." He said, as she nodded slowly. He slowly advanced on Konan by placing his warm hand onto hers, as she held it tightly, as they stayed there in silence, they could communicate with each other without words.
Pein grasped her smaller hand tightly, almost like she was his lifeline, which she partially was. He couldn't let go of her just yet, she needed to live longer, longer for him to tell her how he feels. Pein wished Konan and him could stay happy, together.
He then felt a light weight on his shoulder, and when he looked over, he found Konan lying her head on his shoulder. Her soft purple hair sprawled on his shoulder, her amber eyes drooping and open, staring at the full moon as he looked at her, before he laid his head on top of hers. They did this often, when alone. Silent signs of affection and worth goes a long way.
The moon shone on both of their faces as Pein started to drift off to sleep, but Konan's voice was music to his ears, as she spoke. Pein listened.
