CARTER

[ I look at her and have to smile

As we go driving for a while

Her hair blowing in the open window of my car

And as we go, the traffic lights

I watch them glimmer in her eyes

In the darkness of the evening ]

I steal a glance at her while driving.

Finna, Finna, Finna. Finna Malcolm is the epitome of Medusa. Deadly yet beautiful. If she is indeed Medusa, I will still look at her straight in the eyes. I won't mind becoming a stone at all.

Gano'n naman talaga. Even if she breaks me into fragments, all the pieces of me will still yearn to seek her.

"What are you looking at?"

I just shook my head and smiled.

[ That I've got all that I need

Right here in the passenger seat

Oh, and I can't keep my eyes on the road

Knowing that she's inches from me ]

"Gala tayo before kita ihatid sa inyo? Do you want that?" I said out of nowhere.

"Sure," she agreed. I hope it's still there.

AND I WAS RIGHT. The café is still here. Cozy and everything. Iyong pupuntahan mo palagi after school.

"Could you please read my manuscript before I send it to Fhil?" tanong ko habang kinuha ang yellow folder na nasa bag.

"Sure," she immediately agreed before she sipped from her coffee.

"About?" she asks while looking at my folder where my manuscript is placed.

I heaved a sigh first.

"Love... I guess," I monotonously said.

Tumango siya nang hindi tumitingin sa'kin. She finally opened the folder and read the story.

As she reads my work, I carefully stare at her, not minding the food I ordered. I studied her features and expressions. If only I was born to be a painter, I would have loved to paint her face on a large canvas.

But since I was born to write, I made Finna my favorite character. Hoping one day, she could read between the lines so she would understand how I made her the center of everything. I hope she will know that every line I wrote on that manuscript she is reading right now is for her.

"It's nice even though the main characters didn't end up with each other."

I smiled affectionately when she finally raised her head to look at me.

"Bakit hindi sila nagkatuluyan?"

Now that she's asking, I know she's interested in it.

"Kasi bawal," sagot ko habang kinuha ang folder sa kamay niya at inayos ang laman para ibalik sa bag.
