"Edward, my hand!" I screamed. My hand felt like it was on fire, and it took all my energy to keep myself from passing out from the pain.

"Carlisle," Edward said. "Look at her hand."

I couldn't hold it in any longer, my screams started to fill the room, echoing off the walls.

"Edward, if you want to save her, you have to suck the infected blood out of her veins through the bite," Carlisle said. Edward looked at him, his eyes wide. "It's the only way."

Edward looked down at me. The pain filled my whole body, and my mind. "Please, Stop it. Get it out of me!" I couldn't think of anything else.

He lifted my hand to his mouth and started to drink from the bite that James had inflicted. The pain was replaced with a cold, numbness starting at my chest, and spreading to the rest of my body. My screams grew quieter, and it was as if I were hearing myself scream from a great distance. Edward dropped my hand as my vision blurred. A darkness crept around my eyes until it were as if I were looking at Edward through a long, dark tunnel.

"I'm dying," I thought to myself. Thinking the truth seemed to calm me. The screaming stopped, my body went limp, and I gave in to the dark as it swallowed me whole.

                                                        .:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~:.

"So this is what death feels like,"I thought to myself, before suddenly realizing I had survived. I couldn't feel my body yet, but I could hear some movement in the distance, a bird chirping. A few seconds pass and I can smell again. It's familiar, I recognize that I'm in the Cullen's house. I breathe in and I can smell him. "Edward, " I try to say, but I can only manage the thought.

I have no idea how much time passed before I could feel my body again. I was starting to worry I actually had died, and had returned as a ghost. I felt the soft, silk sheets surrounding me like a cocoon. I felt Edward's arms wrapped around me, his body pressed close to mine. The darkness had started to lighten, and I was finally able to open my eyes.

"Bella," Edward whispered. Somehow his voice was sweeter to me than I had ever heard it before. It was as if each syllable were a symphony. "How do you feel?"

"I feel," I started and stopped suddenly. My voice had changed. It had a sing-song quality that I had never possessed. "I feel wonderful," I finished.

"I have to tell you something," Edward said, his brow furrowed. It seemed as if he were looking right through me, and his eyes were so dark. It looked like he hadn't fed in days. "After James bit you, Carlilse had me drink from you, to try and remove the venom from your blood."

"You saved my life," I said, interrupting him.

"No, Bella. We were too late. I couldn't save you," Edward said and looked at me pointedly.

"Oh," I said softly. I didn't understand what he meant. "If he didn't save me then how am..." I had barely formed the thought before I was able to answer my own question. James had bitten me before the Cullen's had arrived and killed him. His venom had spread throught my body, through my veins, and had reached my heart before Edward was able to remove it. I had been turned into a vampire."Oh," I said again, as the realization hit me.

"It really happened..." I thought out loud. This was what I wanted, to become a vampire, so I could be with Edward. "I didn't get to say good bye," I said. "Oh no, Edward. The last thing I said to Charlie. Charlie. I don't even want to imagine what he thinks of me." I buried my face into Edward's chest, and started to cry. Yes, this is exactly what I wanted to become, but this was not the way I had wanted it to happen.
