The cold wind blistered Diana's face as she cut through mobs of people, nobody not even giving her a second glance as she whipped by. Her eyes were watery and stinging, tears threatening to spill over, but so far the wind and cold stopped it. Her hair was knotted and stuck out in random places, but Diana didn't care. All she could think was run.

Faster and faster her legs carried her, sprinting and navigating her way through all the people on the bustling sidewalk. Her vision was blurry from her tears that had finally  begun to flow freely now, but she didn't bother to wipe them away. Nothing seemed to matter anymore. Nothing but running. Nothing but getting away.

Her mind was going crazy with panic and dread. I have to get away, Diana thought. I have to escape. I can't let them get me again. I can't go back there.

Diana doesn't know where she's running to; just what she's running from. All she was worried about was putting as much distance between her and her captors as she could.

As the streets of Chicago grew darker, Diana grew more tired. She was exhausted, the only thing pushing her forward was fear; her utter terror of the men that were after her.

Diana had tried to escape before, but wasn't successful. They had just brought her back. To her pimp. Even the word tasted sour in her mouth. He had beaten her, the worst beating she had ever received - which is saying a lot - threatening that if she tried to run away again that the consequences would be much worse.

Diana didn't doubt it, although it was hard to imagine anything worse. That's why she couldn't let him get her again, because she was sure that whatever he had planned for her this time, she wouldn't be able to survive it. She was certain he would kill her. Being captured again meant certain death.

He couldn't afford girls like her who were always giving him a hard time and trying to run away. Girls like Diana were to much risk. Besides, she was sure he enjoyed things like killing, especially females. He would make it slow and painful. Diana shuddered just thinking about it.

The bruises and scars were still prominent on her body from the terrible thrashing a month ago. They might have heeled faster if she would have been given the proper medical attention that her wounds required. Diana wished she had a coat or something so she could cover up her beaten body and hide her sleazy clothes. The last thing she needed were people asking questions. She didn't want anyone involved in this, she didn't want anyone else getting hurt. He was too dangerous.

She had to go to another city, that was her only option, she knew. Remaining in Chicago was way to hazardous, he would definitely be looking for her everywhere.

Earlier, before she had attempted a second escape, she was walking the streets as usual. And he and his hired guards - probably former criminals - were also watching her and the other girls as usual. In the buildings. In nearby vehicles carrying weapons, always armed. Always watching while they were making money for him by selling their bodies.

Their had been a complication between a girl and a man who wasn't paying, and a few of the guards stepped out of a nearby car, taking the man with them by force -  no doubt there was a handgun pressed into his back. While most of the pimp's "security" weren't watching her, she decided to make a run for it.

They didn't notice her missing until she was too far away to catch on foot, going through alleyways, making her way to a busier part of town to disappear into the crowd. She had grabbed a coat from someone's arm while she was running and wrapped herself in it while running, hoping it would be a disguise. The lady had yelled furiously at her, but didn't bother to run after her, especially in her four-inch heels. Diana had also been wearing a cheap version of her shoes, but had taken them off when she started running.
