"So we'll meet at two tomorrow, okay?"
"But I don't want to get a dress, I haven't even gotten a date!" Emma and Hanna were practically begging me to go shopping with them on a Saturday, to pick out our dresses for the school dance this coming Friday. It was the talk of the school. I haven't even gotten a date, let alone a dress. Austin and I had been hanging out for a while now but he hasn't said a word about the dance. I was getting nervous, I mean he could get all the girls he wanted but I can't get one guy to ask me out.
"Don't worry, Austin will ask you to the dance. I'm sure of it. Why else was he rejecting every girl who's asked? It's obvious, Em," I blushed as the two of them giggled.
We've been hanging out for a while sure. We've had short picnics at the park, long evenings on the beach, lazy days on the couch. I've also got along with his friends; Tyler, the group comedian/class clown/joker. If there's a serious matter whether it good or bad he's always the one to lighten the mood. It was so easy to get along with him, he was very friendly and outgoing, no awkward tensions whatsoever. Blake, one the other hand was a quiet-mysterious guy (who I secretly wish would date Emma-he's perfect for her!) and of course, Elias, the flirt. He uses his good looks and charms to an advantage, sometimes too much. Plus, he was never the serious type, its just flings for him. Though I havent told anyone about this, but I notice Austin's physic to tense everytime Elias is near -which I thought was sweet of him to be protective of me-. I didn't need any trouble from his own friends.
Austin and I hung out more on the weekends, always out in the day and back before 7-when my dad gets home from work. He's always so busy, we never have time to talk. I don't mind much maybe because I know he's only trying his best to keep the two of us alive and well-of, after my mum left us. I never really knew much about her.
"Okay then, see you tomorrow Em!" Hanna's squeaky voice snapped me out of my daze.
I bid Hanna and Emma Adieu before stepping out of the warm bustling school hall into the cold, harsh concrete, waiting impatiently for Dad. He mentioned that he was going to be late, and he knows how impatient I can be. As I looked out for the black Suzuki vehicle to pass, I noticed an all too familiar figure walking my way.
What was he doing here?
I tried to find a way to escape, to hide, to run away. With very little time, and terrible reflexes, I slumped onto the hard concrete of the ground and buried my face in my bag.
"Well, how's the view in there, Emery? Why? Can't look into my eyes without falling for me?"
I looked up and my face scrunched into a scowl.
I noticed the slightly British tone in his voice. He was British? Well, he could easily pass off as one. His chocolate brown eyes matched his slightly curly hair, his structured face and his defined jaw completed him. All in all, he was pretty hot. Wait, what was I thinking? Realizing I had practically been checking him out, I looked away, embarrassed. Without even looking, I knew he was smirking.
"Go away, jerkpid."
"Jerkpid?"
"Jerk and stupid. That's what you are, Jerkpid." God, I was making weird names.
"You're cute, Emmy," he chuckled and I noticed him bite the inside of his cheek, like he had said something he shouldn't. Was I imagining that?
We stared at each other for what felt like eternity but I finally gave up.
"Emmy?" I asked, now he was giving me names?
"I thought if I had a nickname, you deserve one too, Emmy dear," he replied nonchalantly, with a glint of amusement in his eyes. He thought this was funny?
