Goldcrest Vale is a prestigious school for the gifted in magic and defense. It rests in the mountains of Kamiet. It is home to fae and humans alike. It came as a massive surprise that humans possessed the touch of magic Thy at typically until only about twenty years ago had solely rested within fae only families.

It really went to show that the two species had come together. And now, we were at the time where the crossbred human-faes had been welcomed into Goldcrest Vale.

I was one of those cross breeds. My time here, I thought, would be hell. And it was hit only with a tiny margin. Mostly I was welcomed by my peers along with the rest of the cross breeds making their way through the ornately gold halls lined with the histories the prestigious school had until now. And now, we were making our own history.

It wasn't easy, but we'd made our way into this school. Those that weren't happy about it, were sure to let us know.

"Graduation is in two months time." Professor Silva told us as if we didn't already know that. She went on despite the looks she was receiving from the class. "There is still much for you to learn to prepare you for the world out there. There will be more self defense classes, unlikely pairs will be matched up to truly test the skills you possess. It is important for the humans and human-faes alike to be as well adapted for the real world as the full fledged fae are."

Her pointed ears twitched with amusement as she eyed me then before turning her gaze over to my left, towards someone who just thinking about made my skin boil. Zachariah Blood. He was arrogant, bold and unfortunately for me, very handsome and smart. He had the beauty of pure fae in his veins, I hated him for it. He was also what people in the outside world would perceive as a 'bad boy' but yeah, no, he just thought he was. He was actually pretty tame, unless a pretty girl was winking her way to his bed.

I ignored her and ignored him as he was now looking in my direction. I could feel a twinge of power trying to prick its way into my head. All I had to do to put a stop to that was snap my eyes shut and picture a rubber band. I stretched the rubber band before letting it loose, then I waited.

"What the fuck?" Zachariah screamed as he hunched over his seat, head in his hands. "That bitch!"

I smirked.

Professor Silva darted to Zachariah to check on him. Another thing about Zachariah was that he had all the teachers at his whim. It was pathetic.

She whirred on me in an instant. "Miss Iris!"

She wasn't going to get me this time. When she reached me, with Zachariah smirking behind her, I held up a hand stopping her before she started. "Go ahead and try the reversal, Professor. I promise you'll find your precious little trophy over there was at fault and not me."

If the room weren't full of witnesses, I'm sure Zachariah would have set me on fire as that was his speciality. Though we had some ice majors in the room that would've put me out before any real harm could come to me. I relished in the small fire that was emanating off of him.

I sent him a wink. "Don't get too mad or else you'll catch a fever the ice won't be able to put out."

"At least I have a specialty, Iris! Unlike you."

Though it hurt to have that insult thrown at me, I refused to show it. I wouldn't let him get to me even though he was one hundred percent correct. I didn't have a specialty. I showed signs of each but none of them really stuck out yet which made me stick out like a sore thumb.
