<A/N- If you see * by a word then that means I will translate it at the end of the chapter. This story is based in Miyagi prefecture in Japan. So I will be adding some Japanese to the story it won't be much due to my small knowledge of Japanese, but I one day hope to translate the whole book into Japanese. Also, this book is in anime style so the characters are animated as well. I will dedicate a page of main character information once I find the right look for my characters and once I introduce all the other main characters, but for now I apologize for the bad writing.
Thanks for reading and please don't be afraid to give me some feedback.>

Fear, what a silly thing that people feel. Why did it exist? Couldn't we live without it? I mean, the emotion only got in the way of people trying new things. Not only that but it also fueled people's hunger when they harm others.
But don't get me wrong. I know without fear some people wouldn't have gained courage. But what if it was gone? Would we just have the courage to do things?
Well, for me, I have no fear. Not anymore at least. My fear vanished from me due to the shaman that helped me with training. I mean if I had fear then I couldn't do the job he asked me to do.
What job? Well follow me on my journey and you will find out. It is a very interesting journey so you won't get bored. Well, hopefully, you won't, can't promise anything.
My family had a secret. We looked like a usual family while we were outside of our home but once the doors to our house closed we were our usual selves. You see, we are demons. No, not the normal demons with horns growing out of our heads. We didn't come from hell either. By demons, we feed off of the souls of others. Usually, we pick the souls of evil or souls that have just passed.
I'm not sure where we came from I just know my parents brought me into this world. They, of course, won't tell me where they were created. Just that they didn't have parents as I do. Well, maybe I should start getting used to talking in the present time. You see, my family is no longer with me. They were killed by another demon while I was walking home from volleyball practice. I couldn't believe that my parents, one of the strongest demon duo, were killed by another demon. It occurred a month ago but it felt like it was only yesterday.
I was currently standing in front of a shack in the middle of the woods, waiting. I know, why would I be out here in the middle of the woods? Well, that's simple, I have business with the shaman here. I owe them a favor so now I'm stuck waiting out here in the cold. Though, I don't mind that. The cold always helped me calm down as it was just so soothing against my extra warm skin.
The door to the shack finally opened as a man with long silver hair that was pulled back into a low bun appeared in the doorway. He wore a long white robe and a wooden cross necklace. He held beads in his hands as he observed me.
"What do you want? Demon."
I couldn't help but giggle uncontrollably at this. Yeah, I'm a demon. So what. I wanted to say but couldn't get myself to say anything.
"I owe Matthew a favor."
I sighed as I looked behind the man. There stood the shaman I was looking for. Matthew, a 58-year-old man, stood there in the same robes and necklace as he looked towards me.
"Ah, Akuma*."
He said as he moved the unknown man to the side. I couldn't help but scoff at him as I watched him. He stood tall and proud. His head held high as he stared into my eyes.
"Still as demonic as ever."
He sighed as he motioned for me to come in with his hand. As I entered the shack I could feel my demon soul fade. My human soul felt stronger than usual which bothered me, but it is always like that when you enter a home that has been blessed.
"So, about this favor?"
I asked him as I took a seat on the pillow he had laying on the floor. He sat down as well, but behind a table that was extremely low to the floor. He took his match in front of him and began to light the candles. I watched the wick of the candle slowly burn and catch on fire. It somehow brought life into me as I watched each candlelight.
"Ah, yes. Well, demons have been running around creating chaos more than usual. Since you owed me a favor and we share the same hatred towards demons. I thought well, maybe you could help me take them out?"
He seemed unsure as he looked towards me. I could hear the worry laced in the tone of his voice.
"Um? Meaning I can kill demons and not have to worry about getting in trouble with the popes?"
His eyes crinkled as he chuckled. His voice was full as he wiped away his imaginary tear. He shook his head as he mumbled under his breath, "Only you, Akuma... Only you."
"Wait? Why are you asking a demon for help, Matthew?"
The man from earlier questioned as he stared at Matthew like he grew several heads. Matthew glanced at the man and released a heavy sigh. Probably due to being interrupted and questioned by this man.
"I apologize for my colleague's behavior, Akuma."
I giggled once again as I stood up and peered down at the two men. They glanced up at me as I held my stomach as I laughed. Matthew raised his hand slightly before placing it back down and shaking his head.
"Are you alright?"
That was a question that stumped me. A shaman asking a demon if they are alright. What a hilarious sight.
"I'm fine, but to answer your question from before. Yes, I will help. But only if your conditions aren't too extravagant."
"Gomen*, Akuma."
"Shazai suru hitsuyo wa arimasen*, Matthew."
He let out a breath before nodding and looking back at his colleague. Then he turned his head towards me.
"You must train under me until you have unlocked your true ability. But to do that... You can no longer have fear. Is that alright?"
I looked at him as I raised an eyebrow before shrugging my shoulders.
"Fear is a ridiculous emotion that shouldn't exist in my opinion, so I don't care."
"Alright then, we will start your training in the morning."
I only nodded as I began to walk out of the shack.
'Fear? That emotion shouldn't exist in the first place.'
