chapter one - social suicide
Erin's POV
Hearing the final bell ring, I snap out of my daze and begin to pack up my backpack. As I head out the classroom door, I take a quick glace at the board to see Mrs. Williams erasing something about derivatives. I stop at my locker, grabbing a few extra books I needed for my homework. I shut the door to find none other than Finn Hudson smiling at me.
"Need a ride home?" He grins, making me cock an eyebrow at him.
"No, I drove here, remember?" I laugh. "You literally spent twenty minutes in my car this morning."
"Here, let me carry your books." He grabs the books out of my hand.
"Who are you and what have you done with Finn?" I furrow my eyebrows at him as we walk to my car.
"I'm just showing you how much your friendship means to me." He gives me a guilty smile.
"Spit it out, Hudson. What did you do?"
"So I may have... auditioned for Glee Club today." He sighs. My eyes widen at him as I let out a prolonged and dramatic laugh.
"So you're committing social suicide," I laugh. "And this involves me how?" I open the door to my car, chucking my backpack into the back. Finn sighs and sets the books down on the empty seat.
"Exactly, Erin. It's social suicide. Someone planted weed in my locker and Mr. Schuester is making me do Glee Club instead of turning me in."
"Again, how does this involve me?" I sigh impatiently.
"Jesus, I'm getting there," he groans. "I was thinking maybe you could join too." He gives me a guilty grin. "And I maybe told them you'd be down to audition tomorrow after school."
"Are you insane?" I laugh. "I don't need atonement for any mystery weed. Why would I just join Glee Club?"
"You already know half the kids from your classes, and I know you can sing," he groans. "I really don't want to do this alone. Plus you owe me."
"For what?"
"I don't know," he looks down, thinking for a minute. "Gas money? Probably?"
"Finn, the weird rumor about me being thirty years old just died down, which you started-"
"How many times do I have to tell you my exact words were, 'She's way too mature for you, dude'? It was a compliment," he interrupts. "Look, please don't make me do this alone," he begs.
"Hi, Finn!" I hear Rachel yell from behind me. I turn around and see her waving enthusiastically before marching over to us, her bright pink backpack in tow behind her.
"God, she would have a rolling backpack," I mutter, rolling my eyes.
"Finn, I loved your suggestion for Glee, 'Don't Stop Believing'," she gives a wide smile.
"Speaking of Glee," Finn smirks. "This is Erin. I told you she's trying out tomorrow." My eyes widen as I turn to Finn and give him an angry glare.
"It's so nice to finally meet you. We've heard so much about you in Glee Club," Rachel rambles.
"Didn't you guys meet like today?" I furrow my eyebrows. She ignores my comment and turns to Finn.
"So I was thinking we could turn it into a duet, and you and I could sing lead," she smiles at Finn.
"Yeah, that'd be sick," he smiles, in oblivion to her obvious infatuation with him.
"Right..." I laugh, opening the door to the driver's seat. "I'm going to head home since I guess I need to rehearse." I frown at Finn before getting in the car and closing the door. I see him give me a small wave as I roll my eyes at him before starting the engine and driving away.
--Later that night--
"Erin!" I hear my mom call from downstairs. I sigh and set down my history textbook before going out to the hallway and peaking my head around the staircase. I roll my eyes, seeing Finn standing at the front door, making conversation with my mom.
"I'll send you home with some of the cookies I made earlier," she grins up at him.
"Don't, Mom," I frown. "He doesn't deserve them." I crinkle my nose at him making him roll his eyes.
"Erin, don't be so rude to Finn," she cocks her head at me.
"Yeah, Erin. Don't be so rude to Finn," he snickers, playfully.
"I need to head to sleep. I have an early flight tomorrow," my mom lets out a happy sigh, giving Finn a hug before heading to her room. He grins and comes up the staircase to see me. I groan as he follows me into my room. I ignore him and take a seat at my desk, continuing my homework.
"So... what are you working on?" He sighs, uncomfortably.
"A list of ways to get you back for this," I tease, making him roll his eyes. "History." I hold up the textbook.
"Have you decided what song you're doing?" He grins.
"I can't believe you're doing this."
"Erin, it's not that big of a deal," he shrugs.
"You know Quinn is going to be pissed. Don't even get me started on Puck. You will literally never hear the end of this."
"Why would Quinn be pissed?" He furrows his eyebrows in confusion.
"I know you aren't this oblivious..." I laugh. "You see the way Rachel looks at you."
"It's not like that," he sighs. "We're just hanging out. You and I hang out," he defends.
"I don't swoon every time you speak to me," I groan. He huffs and falls back onto my bed in defeat.
"I don't want to argue anymore," he groans, staring up at my ceiling. "Can I please get a preview of your audition song? Your mom said you sounded really good while you were practicing."
"I hate both of you," I tease, making him give me a small grin. I sigh and turn around in my chair to face him, rolling my eyes and he sits up to watch me. I grab my phone and pull up the instrumental version of "When You Were Young" by The Killers.
"You sit there in your heartache.
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways."
I grin at Finn bobbing his head to the music. I let out a small laugh, grabbing my pen to use as a fake microphone, making him laugh.
"You play forgiveness
Watch it now, here he comes!"
I belt out the lyrics, laughing at Finn's attempt to dance along to the music. I hold the pen out to him, and laughs before singing the next lines.
"He doesn't look a thing like Jesus,
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young."

End notes:
I hope liked the first chapter! Puck and the rest of the characters will definitely play a more prominent role in Chapter 2, I just needed to ~preface~ everything. I might also try and make the following chapters a bit longer. Lmk your thoughts and feelings!
