Sweet Miss Fortune

Part 1: Chaos from the top down

     People say that family's first and they're the most important alongside friends, who are always there for you. Interesting that the hufflepuff theories are like that and although I never had real parents I still got sorted into the house that values it most.

     It's true I don't know my real parents but I live with Sirius Black and Remus Lupin and they're like fathers to me. But I could never decide why they took me in and whether or not they know who my biological parents are. However I'm not sure I want to know it because I like it here, they're very caring, I actually call them my dads.

     They also chose my name and that makes me think they hate me and want the worst for me (of course that's not true but it sure feels like it). So they didn't want my surname to be after their's which means they chose something very unique for me: Fortune. Yeah I'm Y/N Fortune and when teachers call on me they always say Miss Fortune. Missfortune. You get it why I don't like it now. But at least they let me choose my own nickname: Effy. The name has caught on and my close friends usually call me Effy instead of Y/N.

     Sirius also has a godson: Harry Potter. He lives with us so it's almost like he's my brother. Although we're both technically ophans he's the chosen one. He's way more famous than I am. People love him or hate him, no in between. Me on the other hand people don't really care about me when they can have Harry Potter himself. Fortunately there're some students that look beyond fame like the Weasleys. Harry and I are both great friends with them, we hang out all the time.

     "Effy breakfast!" Sirius yells as I'm turning on my other side and putting a big pillow on my ears so I can sleep longer. I even close my eyes again hoping I'd fall asleep but in the next second someone barges in my room and throws something heavy at me which hits my back. "Ouch what was that?" I sit up quickly angrily and notice that a big book lays next to me. "Are you serious?" I turn to Harry who's mischievously leaning against my door frame. "How do you expect me to wake you up?" he looks at me puzzled but there's a little smug smile on his face. He takes on too much from Sirius' personality. "You know we can take you back to Dursleys" I tease him as put my hair in a bun then get out of bed. For a moment Harry looks at me frightened like he stopped existing, he's just frozen. "Joking bro" I say to make sure he's not actually offended, this topic is his kryptonite (aka weakness). "You two will be late" Lupin puts his hand on Harry's shoulder and smiles at me. "Good morning darling" he looks at me with his face covered in scars. "Hi dad, can you tell Potty to leave me alone?" I ask frustrated as I take a look in my wardrobe wondering what I should wear. "Harry come on, let's leave your sister change" Remus nods with his head in the direction of the stairs. "We're not related" we say in unison as we smile widely at each other. Him and I always tease each other but love hanging out, it's like we always have someone there for us. "Where's my uniform?" I ask before Remus and Harry go downstairs. "I have it ready for you in the living room" Lupin answers sweetly. "Thank you!" I shout after them because judging of the creaky steps they're descending the stairs.

      "Hi daaad!" I say as soon as I get to the kitchen and give him a kiss on the cheek as he takes a bite of his sandwich. "Mornin' Y/N" he answers as he's chewing. I pour myself some orange juice then lean on the counter as I take a sip of it. "Oh school called. I'm supposed to tell you not to prank Snape anymore. But as your dad I can't do that" Sirius winks at me and I giggle softly. "But try not to transform so often, after all you're an unregistered animagus" he continues. Yeah I'm an animagus because Remus is a werewolf and he had to turn every month so Sirius learnt animagi to take care of him when he has to go through it. And because they both can turn into animals (although only one of them on purpose) Sirius thaught me. "Finee" I growl and sit down next to Harry to grab something to eat. "Your train leaves in 20 minutes, shouldn't we be there?" Lupin asks worried. He's always the one that makes sure we're on time and properly dressed, fed. "Remus it'll be fine-" he looks at his husband, trying to calm him down. "But I'm teaching this year!" Lupin cuts him off and to that Harry and I stop what we're doing and look at him in surprise. "It was supposed to be a secret..." he says shyly. "You think we wouldn't have noticed that you got on the train with us?" Harry asks. "You might not have" I add softly which makes Sirius smile proudly. "Good one little Padfoot" he whispers to me and we fistbump while Harry is looking at me with piercing eyes in anger.

         We exit Grimmauld place 12 and get to the train station. "See you two on the train, I'll save some seats" he smiles then turns to Sirius and hugs him tightly, they don't kiss in front of us however I think they're great for each other. "Bye dad" it's my turn to say goodybe to him so I embrace him, never wanting to let go. "Write to me often" he whispers. "You don't have to ask" I smile as he pats my head. Harry goes up to him too to hug him "Take care of your sister" I hear him faintly whisper to Harry. I smile softly. I love our unnormal family.

      We get on the train and start looking for our friends. "Y/N, Harry!" I hear Hermione's voice behind my back. "Hermione, great to see you!" Harry greets the girl. "Ron's already in a compartment" she continues and points the way. "I think I'll look for Cedric. Catch you later!" I wave to them and look for my friend. "Effy!" someone grabs me from behind and lifts me up which makes me giggle. "Cedric!" I hug him tightly when he puts me down. "Missed you" I add. "You saw me two weeks ago" the pretty boy giggles. "Exactly my point" I fake sulking as we get to our comparrtment.
