Is there ever a moment when you think that everything, for just one night will go right? That no-and I mean no- surprises will happen.

I did.

I thought that tonight I would just be with my family and guess what happens.

I run into the one person I don’t want to see when ninety-nine point nine percent of the time I’d usually be begging to see.

Cade De Leo never fails to surprise me.

“Hey,” he greets.

I don’t smile, I don’t even wave, I just look at him, “Hey.”

“What are you guys doing here?” he asks.

I look pointedly at Alex, silently telling him to explain because I don’t want to speak to Cade.

“Just spending some time with the family,” Alex informs him.

“Oh, same. Well I’ll see you guys at school.” He waves as he walks away.

I let out a breath of air that I didn’t know I was holding and start playing with my napkin. A little bit later the food arrives and we start eating. About twenty minutes pass when I excuse myself to the bathroom.

When I enter I see Jade there with her black hair-normally curly-straightened with a white bow in it and her light brown eyes covered in mascara. She was wearing a black dress that reached her mid-thigh and white flats.

“Hey,” I smile softly at her.

She rushes over to me and pulls me into a tight hug, “Oh Lex I’m so sorry about what happened the other day. It was all because of me, you need to believe me, I don’t have time to tell you what happened today but come over tomorrow after school and I’ll tell you.”

“Jade, it’s okay. I can’t breathe.” I inform her.

“Oh, sorry.” She smiles sheepishly at me as she lets me go.

“Come to my house tomorrow afternoon, I’ll tell you why he was mad.” She tells me.

“I don’t know,” I say. “Maybe it’s not a good idea.”

“You’re coming, okay? For me, please.” she pouts her lips at me clasps her hand together in front of her.

I groan because she knows that look always works on me, “Fine, fine. I don’t know what time though.”

“Yay,” she screeches.

“Just go,” I groan.

“Okay, bye Lex.” She kisses my cheek and hugs me once more before she walks off.
