I feel the warm sun on my face as I out of bed. I look out to see the streets crowded with dirty people on their way to work, heads down and shoulders heavy. I watch a young man in particular, who can't be more than 16, feeling his way through the streets with a long cane. I watch for a few more minutes then turn away. Life is hard enough for people like us now a-days anyways. No need to feel sorry for a cripple.
I step away from the window and open the small door which holds my clothes and shoes. I strip away my night gown and pull on the sundress I use for warm days like this. I tie my sneakers and walk to the small bathroom me and my brother share. Not long after I run the wooden brush through my hair, Tobias walks in. "Morning Anna." He says to me while pulling out the toothbrush from the drawer containing our toothbrushes and toothpaste. I open the cabinet beside the mirror and place back the hairbrush while pulling out a rubber band. I grab my hair and rope the band around it until it will not go anymore. "So what are your plans today?" Tobias ask's as he spits out the toothpaste. "I am going to the market for some fresh fruit and herbs, then I plan to go to the fabric store and the bakery." I say with a small amount of energy. "Why the bakery? We can barely afford anything from the market, so what makes you think we can possibly buy something from that place?" I smile and hold up my pointer finger as the signal to wait. I walk into my room and grab my small fabric purse which was my gift for my 14th birthday. I reach into the small pocket inside the purse and pull out a quarter, rare to see in a teens hands. I walk back into the bathroom and put the quarter into the palm of my hands. "A quarter!" He exclaims. "Shhh. Keep your voice down! No one knows about it." I say fast. "But...but how did you get it? Teens almost never get beauty's like that." His question makes me smile, knowing he is surprised. "I sold one of my sewed pieces." I say with a grin. He knows how hard sewed pieces are to make, and how much they mean to me when I am finally done with them. "I'm proud of you Anna. I know how hard you work on sewed pieces." He says with pride. I wrap him in a hug and squeeze until he mutters, "I can't breathe!" and I let him go. "I will be back later. Stay out of trouble okay?" I tell him and he smirks in reply. "Whatever you say." Is his response and I walk out of the bathroom door. My father already left for work, so I leave a note in case he comes back early. It never happens, but it doesn't hurt to hope. Slipping on my tan sandals, I walk out the door. With the breeze on my face I start my trip to the market.
