AS LONG AS YOU LOVE ME: CHAPTER ONE

The smell of old and freshly poured liquor-filled my nose and my taste buds jumped. I grew eager and could taste the liquid teasing my tongue and burning my throat. The beat of Frank Ocean's song Lost boomed throughout the house, making my head pound. I was aware of my current state of vulnerability, but the song itself wasn't tugging at my heartstrings. I pushed through the crowd of drunken teens; my eyes narrowed looking for another drink (although I hardly finished my last) or preferably a place to rest for a second, whichever found me first. My throat felt dry even though I had chugged down a couple of beers, it burned for more. The pressure of others' bodies pressing against mine, made it harder to move. I felt confided and yet my mind was spinning out of control. The lack of space tempted me into having an outburst. Frank's voice only got louder making me stop and dance in my spot. Reacting to my desire to drown myself in toxins or find a place to rest left me. My hands abruptly flew up, my wrist twirling and my fingertips grazing the musty air. My platform boots stomped to the rhythm against the wooden floor. I could feel eyes burning into me, watching my body's every movement. I was slightly intrigued as to who was staring me down yet agitated at the same time. I was too drunk to be concerned.

Frank's voice soon faded and I went to find another drink, although, I had already drunk a few. I pushed passed more and more teens, which were sloppily making out with their lovers in the hallway. The air reeked of several toxins and I prayed that the whiff of diseases floating in the air never greeted me. I scoffed at most of them. I wasn't fond of most of the people I spotted here but I had to admit, Dwayne, a depressed football player's parents had a great stash of beer and wine in their basement. I wasn't close with Dwayne, but we knew of each other for several reasons that I rather not elaborate on. His house spoke for the image his parents had around town. I don't believe it could truly define him, however, it engulfed him. His parents owned a few companies in and out of town had nothing to do with who he truly was.

"Vanessa, just the girl I was looking for." A random yet familiar voice greeted me as they approached me. My vision was slightly blurry but I could make out who it was. I rolled my eyes when I noticed his figure. Ryan. Ryan Butler. Someone I once called family.

"What do you want Ryan?" I spat, turning back on my heels. Out of all the chaos, I could hear his footsteps close behind me.

"I heard you like your beer." He announced. Abruptly I stopped and slowly turned around. His handheld two bottles of beer, both already open for me to devour. I sighed and shifted my position so I could get a better look at him.

"Where'd you hear that at?" I questioned, a smirk plastered across my face. Although Ryan and I weren't considered friends at this moment in time I usually found our encounter nostalgic. He knew previously, a note wasn't necessary. He knew I was infatuated with my liquor and everything else that made me a sinner, like everyone else.

"Chaz." He coughed, smiling slightly as he played along. I chuckled, "Chaz, my dear friend can never keep his mouth shut. Must've slipped."  I cooed before rolling my eyes.
