The next morning she got up and headed over to the wash basin she kept in her room so she could wash up easily in the morning. She found a note on her writing desk.
Dear Lacey,
Dress in something you can "play" in and meet me outside in the garden.
Will.
She threw on a pair of jeans she kept for rock climbing and a fitted t shirt. She threw her hair in a ponytail and ran out to the garden without even eating breakfast. "Hey Will!" She called feeling like she was eight years old again. "Hey Lace come here!" She came over and saw a box in his hand and instantly saw E.M.B on it. "Will where did you find that!" She asked sitting on the bench next to him. "I remembered what you said about the tree and looked in the orchard again." "There is an old cottage up there and one of the floor boards I noticed were halfway up and I saw a small box tucked in covered with a cloth. No one has been in there since the 40s I think." He set the box on the bench and pryed the top. Another diary entery and another picture the picture was of a woman around 30 even though she was serious her eyes looked kind even in the fragile picture. Will took the piece of paper and read.
April 30th 1956
Mother is well again thank goodness! The girls were driving me crazy with all their chatter! Although young Joy brought up Father yesterday asking when he would get home. How do you tell a young child her Father was murdered? I pray every night for an answer but I may just need to tell her soon although it will hurt poor Mother. Mother invited a strange looking man over yesterday and I heard something said about marriage! I am hoping she has not moved on from Father quite yet. I would not be able to forgive her. Now I must continue my studies or else Mother will have my head!
E.M.B
"I sure wish I knew who E.M.B was..." Lacey murmured. "Oh!" Will said obviously remembering why he had asked Lacey to dress the way she did. A teasing smile played accross his face. "Um Will why do you look like that?" She asked. She knew very well Will was going to get her into trouble. "We are going to an amusement park." "Oh now Will!" "Mama will KILL me she doesn't approve of those places!" "Well too bad I do." He took her hand in his and almost forced her out of the garden towards the gates that protected her home. "Will this is a horrid idea really it is!" Will released her hand and turned to face her. His copper eyes looked deeply into her blue ones. "Lacey when was the last time you ever had FUN." He saw her go to say something and held his hand up. "Fun your Mom did not make up." Her face fell and she shook her head. "Not since I was a child..." "Then it's settled!" "Today is not for rules it's not even for acting proper it's for plain fun!" She felt like she was commiting a crime. The gated were not gaurded anymore so they went right through and started down a small road. The road curved and as soon as grass came in veiw on the side of the road they walked on there. The bright green grass scattered with flowers. The sky a brilliant blue. "How far away is it?" She asked in a small voice still a bit afraid. "Oh about an hour but there is a bus stop out here and we will take that." "A bus?" She asked him taken back. "I am going to take a BUS Mama said those things are HORRIBLE!" Will laughed so hard he had to stop and then continue walking. "Oh Lace you really are a house pet!" "No Lancing redid their buses and they are brand new and the cleanest ones I have ever seen!" They reached the bus stop and waited. The bus would be there soon. "Oh will I don't have any money!" She said just realizing Will didn't even give her time to get her purse. "That's okay Lacey you won't need any." She was really confused now. The bus pulled up and Lacey took in a deep breath. Yes she was nervous but she got on any way since Will was already at the top of the stairs going into the bus. She climbed the three stairs and followed Will to a seat. A sudden thrill went through her. She was free right now. No Mama no Chester and no rules. She was free. "I thought on the way home we can go to the library and see if there were any E.M.Bs in this town. She nodded the library kept the records for an odd reason. A park came into sight. Roller coasters and ferris wheels and ticket stands all drew her in. She looked like a small child the way she looked at everything so dazed. "Will is this an um.. amusement park?" She asked her voice holding wonder. "Yeah it is I am still dead shocked you have never been to one but oh well heres the ticket stand." She followed him amazed at the crowd of people. As a child Will had been a daring one always surprising her. Things didn't change. Will ordered two entrance tickets and took her in. She felt bad for not having money with her but Will have told her three times now to forget it. He took her to a line in front of a large roller coaster. She turned to him. "Will I am NOT going on this I will surely die!" "No you won't die Lace and I haev been on roller coasters over a dozen times and I am alive." The reached the front of the line and Lacey freaked out. She gently pulled his hand as he drug her up. "Will pleeease don't make me please!" "Lacey you will be FINE." She pulled back more and stood her ground. Will smiled that dangerous smile again. He could easily lift her and he did. He picked her up and placed her gently in the car. She just looked at him shocked and sank into her seat a bit in fear. The controler of the roller coaster started it and the crawled up. Will almost fellt out trying not to laugh at Lacey. She was now relaxed in her seat. "This isn't bad at all Will you were right." She had NO clue what was about to happen. The coaster took a steep drop down hill and FAST. She shrieked and her knuckled went white as she clung onto the car. Will screamed and threw his hands up. Lacey shrieked her hands clutching the car and her face down so she wouldn't see how fast she was going. After what seemed forever they came to a slow stop and she felt Will touch her shoulder. She stood up on her legs surprised she could barely walk. "What did you think he said looking at her." Her head suddenly shot up and a wide smile crossed her face. "Will I do think I almost died but it was AWESOME!!" Her face was as giddy as a childs and they went on throughout the park. Lacey having fun as she should experiencing things she never had. Like cotton candy. They left the park around 4 and headed towards home. Lacey rested her head on Will's shoulder exhausted. She had enjoyed her day and was glad Will had made her leave home. Afraid as she had been she was glad she went but couldn't believe how tired she was! "Did you like it?" Will asked slightly turning his head to look down at her. "Yes Will I very so enjoyed it that I don't even care what Mama will do to me for it was so much fun!" Will laughed at her. "I would never had known that something so great was so close." She said now staring out the window. They pulled a string when Will said this was thier stop for the library and got off the bus. Lacey followed him around the corner to the library and wondered what they would find.
