As the sun set, I stared at the enchanting ocean before my eyes. The view was just exhilarating! Nothing can ever match the beauty of something as majestic and resplendent as an ocean. It looked like the sun was slowly sinking into the ocean, illuminating even its darkest and deepest trenches. It was so alluring that I couldn't take my eyes off it. As I stood there, hypnotized and mystified, I realized that I was staring at the one thing that terrified me the most.
I have always been scared of the ocean. I know that many people are. But most of them are scared of drowning or being eaten by "scary creatures". I on the other hand, am scared of neither. I'm considerably good at swimming and I'm pretty sure that "scary creatures" come nowhere close to the shore! What frightens me is the immensity of the ocean. It's just so vast that it feels greater than life itself. The fact that something so great exists and that I'm an absolute nothing when compared to it makes my blood run cold. It represents all the things that I haven't faced in life yet, all the things I'm not sure I can face. It represents the unknown. It highlights the fact that there are millions of obstacles that I need to overcome before reaching the other side.
I know that someday I will have to vanquish this fear. So I gathered all the courage I could find and took one step forward at a time. But as my feet touched wet sand, my legs froze. I couldn't move any further. I couldn't think, I couldn't breathe. For a moment I thought I was slipping away but I snapped out of it. I saw that the waves were just about to hit the shore. I couldn't do it, I just couldn't! I turned around and walked away as the waves washed away my footprints thinking, "Maybe another day...."
