Once Upon A Time

       “Did you hear about the arranged marriage between the Prince and the Princess of Asena!” Leo sighed and pulled his hood up before walking out of the magic shop in the village, he was about to lose hope until he heard someone say, “Hey, did you see the witch. I can’t believe he would show his face around here.” Leo walked over to the man and tapped his shoulder “Um, excuse me sir but can you tell more about the witch?” The man huffed and turned to face him “Well all I know is that once a week he comes into town and looks around the shops. Then when the sun is about to go down he heads back into the forest. That’s all I can tell you but if you want more information I would go to the herbalist. She’ll answer any questions you have for her.” The man then walked into the crowd until he faded in with everyone else.

    Leo thanked the man and started to walk to the herbalist shop and knocked on the door only for it to open up, “Hello?” He walked into the shop and started to look around until he saw a short girl organizing the shelfs. “Uh excuse me? I was told you could help me find out more about the witch.” The little girl finished up and walked over to him, “Well what do you want to know?” Leo stopped for a second and thought, “I was hoping you could tell me if he does request for potions..” Leo felt embarrassed and pulled down his hoodie to show who he really was. The girl had dropped a jar of a strange fluid, “P-Prince Leo! I’m very sorry for my behavior before!” She tried to clean the glass up but ended up cutting her finger. “O-ow I’m sorry I’ll have this cleaned up so we can talk” Leo smiled and kneeled down and carefully picked up the glass, “But you're hurt. You should bandage your hand while I clean this up.” 

    After a few minutes had passed he walked over to the counter and smiled nervously, “Do you think you can help me? I accidentally cut my hand” The girl nodded and started to bandage his hand while speaking to him, the girl looked up at him, “So what is it you need help with again?” Leo pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to her, “I have a request for him. I was wondering if you could write down his address” She grabbed the paper and said, “Wouldn’t it be in the archive’s at the library?” She started to write down on the piece of paper and handed it to him. Leo grabbed it and smiled, “That’s what I thought, but when I tried to check there was nothing on him so I thought to ask around until someone told me to come to you.” 

    She stood up and went behind the counter and pulled out a jar filled with leaves and flowers, “If you're going to his house can you hand him this? He placed an order but I just didn’t have time to give it to him.” She handed it to him and wrote a note on it, “Be careful in the forest there are a lot of monsters at night so I would recommend to wait till morning, tell him Alana sent you and hopefully he will be able to help you” Leo nodded and put the jar in his bag. He walked to the door and just when he was about to leave he thanked her. She wished him luck and smiled as she went back to organizing the shelfs for the rest of the night. 

    Leo had woken up to his personal servant comin in with his breakfast, he yawned and asked for his schedule for the day until the butler spoke up. “Good morning Prince Leo.” Leo looked over at him and stretched, “Good morning Gabriel, what is my schedule for today?” He got up and went into a different room to get ready for the day. Once he was done he came out and went over to his desk and handed the piece of paper from the night before to Gabriel. Gabriel examined the paper and handed it back to him, “Sir, you have nothing on your schedule so you have a free day. But may I ask what is the meaning of the paper?” Leo sighed and began eating his breakfast, “Well.. It’s an address to someone I must meet. But when I tried to find where it was on the map I found nothing.” The butler nodded and opened the curtains, “That’s because it’s in the Dark forest, I’m sure you know we don’t do business with the people that inhabit that area.” Leo was confused about his choice of words and decided to ask, “Gabriel why does everyone seem to distance themselves from the people that live in the Dark forest?” The butler stood there for a while and cleared his throat, “I can not tell you that but I think it would be best if you don’t go to the address listed on the paper.” 

    The butler went over to the door, “If that will be all. I’ll take my leave, have a nice day Prince Leo.” With that he left the room and it was quiet once again. Leo had finished his meal and grabbed his bag and stuffed a cloak in the bag next to the jar. He left his room and began walking towards the garden where he saw his mother, “Mother what are you doing out here?” The woman looked over at him and smiled, “I can ask you the same thing Prince Leo.” Leo smiled and walked over to her, “May I sit next to you Mother?” The woman nodded and went back to looking at the flowers, “I see your heading into the village again” Leo grabbed his bag and pulled out the jar, “Yeah I have to give this to someone.” He sighed and got up, “Well I’ll be back by sundown”

    Leo put the cloak on and waved to the woman before going through the gate that led to the forest. He thought for a moment, “So this is the Evergreen Forest..” He began walking into the forest and noticed it slowly started to get darker. He looked up and saw the top of the trees blocking out any sunlight. A chill ran down his neck when he felt like something or someone was watching him. He pushed those thoughts away and continued walking until he heard a branch behind him break. Before he had the chance to see what made that noise he took off running in the opposite direction. While he was running he saw a cottage in the distance and decided to stay there until he knew what was outside. 

    He ran to the porch and knocked on the door and kept looking behind him, that was until someone opened the door. Leo fell in which made a loud thud. He looked up and saw a small male who looked around his age holding a weird staff. The male stepped back and raised the staff, “Who are you!? And why are you here!” Leo sat up and leaned against the door, “I’m sorry but there was something out there and you happened to be the first cottage I saw.” The male relaxed a little and helped him up, “But you didn’t answer my question. Who are you?” Leo took his hand and responded with, “My name is Leo, and I need to give someone this jar. But I don’t know where to look first.” He sighed and dusted himself off. 

   The male nodded and pulled a chair out for him, “Here sit you look exhausted, but is there any kind of note that has a name or address?” Leo then remembered about the note Alana tied to the jar, he pulled out the jar and read it. “Hmm.. Axel..” The male seemed surprised so Leo looked at him. Leo asked “Is there a problem?” The male nodded, “I don’t know anyone other than me that has that name in this part of the forest. By any chance did someone name Alana send you?” Leo nodded, “Yeah! How did you know?”

   Axel sighed and grabbed the jar only to walk into a different room. Leo seemed confused and decided to follow him until they were in a room that looked like the front of a store, he noticed Axel mumbling something but couldn’t make out what he was saying. Leo started to look around at all the colorful jars, even some filled with strange fluids, and with strange plants. Leo went back to the counter and saw Axel looking through what was an old and thick book. He walked over to him and said, “Woah what are you doing?” Axel closed the book and poured in the leaves, “Well I’m trying to make a new potion but every time I tried it usually ends with an explosion..”
