Chapter 18

"Altair? ALTAIR!" Tawag ni Gwynedd na nagmamadali nang matanaw ang kaniyang pinsan. Napapalibutan ito ng mga body guards na mga nakatayo sa kaniyang paligid. Nang siya'y marinig ay agad itong tumayo at siya'y niyakap.

"Neddy..." garagal ang boses nitong tawag sa kaniya at umiyak.

"Shhh... Don't cry. Don't cry, Altair. Tell me, us, what happened---"

"KALONICE!" malakas na sabi ni Midas at nagdire-diretso sa paglalakad. Akmang papasukin niya ang ER nang siya'y hilahin ni Caedmon pabalik. Nang makilala ang lalaki ay mabilis niyang hinawakan ang kamay nito bago inikot at siya'y itinapon sa sahig.

"MIDAS!"

"THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE OF YOU! BECAUSE OF YOU!" he bellow while choking Caedmon. Agad siyang inalayo ng mga body guards ni Altair kay Caedmon na agad na hinabol ang hininga.

"Larzen, you need to calm down! Calm down!"

"But---Mom!? It was because of him why ut happened to her! It was his fault!" giit niya at idinuro-duro ang kaibigan.

"I-It's not my fault, Midas. Hindi ko kasalanan kung mas pinili mong magpabebe imbis na makinig sa kaniya. Hindi ko kasalanan kung sinarado mo ang isip mo imbis na hayaan siyang mag-explain. Hindi ko kasalanan kung nagpakatanga ka. Kasalanan mo dahil iniwan mo si Kalonice. If only you stop and listened to her, you have nothing to regret," depensa ni Caedmon at tumayo.

"What did you say!?" sigaw ni Midas at sinugod siya ngunit hinila siya ng ina bago malakas na sinampal.

"Go back to your senses! Don't shout like you grew up in the streets. Where are the manners I've taught you!?" Panggigising niya sa anak na natauhan naman.

His lips trembled as his tears welled up in hid eyes. "Mom, she lied to me. K-Kalonice lied to me, Mom..."

Nanlambot si Gwynedd at mabilis na niyakap ang anak. Larry tapped his son's back. They still do not know what happened ngunit hindi muna nila ito aalamin at hihintayin ang balita ng doktor tungkol sa kalagayan ni Kalonice.

Nang biglang bumukas ang mga pinto ng ER.

"Who has a AB-, B-, A-, or O- blood type among you?" tanong nito nang walang pakundangan.

"I-I'm O," sabi ni Caedmon at tumingin sa pamilyang Yzaguirre.

"I'm A positive, and Altair too. Larry is B and Larzen is AB," sabi naman ni Gwynedd. Altair asked his guards but their answers are none of what the doctor have mentioned.

"We could not stop the hemorrhage of the patient's head. Also, the back and front part of her brain has a concussion, which caused edema. Sad to say, the patient got a rare blood type, which is AB-, and we have none of the negative blood types too stock in this hospital. If this continues, it will be critical and occasionally will lead to...death."

"N-No! You're a doctor! You need to treat Kalonice!" Midas cried before looking at his parents. "Mom! Dad! Kalonice---Don't let Kalonice die! Mom!" Humagulgol ng iyak si Midas. Mahigpit siyang niyakap ng ina na naluluha na din.

"H-How much time does she have in your estimation, Doc?" tanong ni Larry na nanlalamig.

"More but not exceeding, and less than an hour. It could be within minutes since her brain is quite damaged severely."

Hearing the doctor's news made Midas cry harder. Gwynedd covered her mouth and began crying too. Altair couldn't move. If the patient will die, it will be his fault dahil siya ang nakabangga dito. He will be dead. Mababaliw na siya dahil sa nangyari. Hindi na lang pala dapat siya tumakas. Hindi na pala dapat niya tinakasan ang kaniyang mga body guards para lang mapuntahan sina Gwynedd. Edi sana, ligtas siya ganun din si Kalonice.
